I've noticed there are a few people on here who think the survival of the LR brand simply depends on ever increasing sales. (As if we will forgive the D5 anything if LR sell more than the old disco!)
In reality, while selling more cars can help the cashflow look great in the short term... if you don't increase the capacity and quality at the dealers, then the whole thing can quickly turn into a nightmare. Think about it - 30% more new cars sold each year is a massive increase in servicing demands and warranty work... and you've still got to service the old ones! At the moment it probably takes most people a week or two to get their car booked in. With all these new LR customers who are paying top dollar for their trendy toys... how long before the current 'dealership experience' gets a bit tired or even backfires?

Your right lots and lots of barely used disco5 on web site you will find a lot are dealer reg cars to get registrations we are on our 4th disco 5 courtesy car since March 1st previous 3 are up for sale normally keep them 6 months ish more interesting is dealer experience yep 2-3 weeks to get in but when you do get in if it's a problem rather than just a service you join a queue waiting for someone suitably qualified to look at it so people are ending up in courtesy cars for weeks in se cases not good in the last two weeks we have had 4 failed engines recovered in the last one is scheduled to be started July capacity is already at max

Was talking to a dealer this week about my cold feet on the D5 order hence I was looking at the used website.
Dealer said D4's are selling very well the moment, they offered me a very good deal to part with my D4 and jump into a new D5 thats delivered next week but the current plan is to keep it alongside the D5 so I declined. He said he has two people lined up for mine one of the guys saw it when it was in the other week and actually asked them to enquire with me on it Its a MY16 Lux with every factory option and Pack ticked he said they are getting enquires almost daily on D4 stock especially late model high spec ones. MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
MY12 HSE - Gone
MY16 HSE Luxury - Sold
MY20 D5 HSE - Sold

The attraction of the D5 was a larger boot than a Sport and something that no longer looked like a van.
The only gripes I have with the D5 is the questionable rear and the road handling compared to the Sport.
Both of these I can live with and overall pleased with the choice.
That's a very valid point; the D5 might be a peculiar irrelevance to many D4 owners, but it's the perfect upgrade for a Disco Sport owner; it looks the same, it drives the same - there's just that bit more technology, space, power and prestige. It's just as easy as changing from an X3 to and X5, or (in my case) from a FL2 to a D4.
With so many Disco Sport drivers to appeal to, it makes a lot of commercial sense.
I wished they'd used another name for it though and left the D4 as a separate line. Perhaps they could have resurrected "Road Rover", for a Road Rover Sport and the "full fat" Road Rover instead!

The DS doesn't drive anywhere near as good as the D5, the D5 is superior on every level compared to the DS in that respect.
How about just call them all Road Rover its a more true reflection. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

The "Road Rover" aka RRS2 is better off road than your D4 on the same tyres... Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Having tested the D5 off road (in some very tricky stuff) fairly intensively, it's a hugely capable car. However, the thick pillars, the rounded shape and the inability to place the very rounded and completely out of sight front corners tend to outweigh the advantages of the loss of a couple of hundred kilos (V6 vs V6) when the going gets very tough.

Yes, the new designs do seem to lead to the "false summit" effect at the corners. Never quite sure where the end of the bodywork is. I guess time in the vehicle would help but squarer designs are easier to learn in this regard. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I see that of the 644 used Discos available nationwide on the LR used website, 48 are now D5's. The first two that I came across were ex demo, one from my nearest dealer (Roger Young) has only 500 miles on it on a 17 plate.
The dealer's must have one heck of an incentive to get their demo cars turned over to used stock and new Demonstrators registered. This is very odd, as the last time I asked them to buy a used car into stock for me, they were very reluctant to hold any more stock than absolutely necessary.
Blimey, 17 plate V6 HSE's, ex demo, with <2,400 miles, for £59,000. The deals on new demo stock must be keen indeed Why the fire sale?

£57,995 even buys an HSE V6 with <1,000 miles

I had a brief test drive yesterday in a HSE TDV6, which confirmed my opinion of not to purchase a D5. However, the dealer had until recently 10 for sale (still a few left, but not the one in my photo which is a dealer specced one and for sale) due to a company cancelled order! That must have been a blow.

Residuals on the RRS seems to have weakened as well...over a 1000 on the LR site, loads at my local dealer. I can only get 55k spot (or 57k if I buy the showroom D5!) for my 2 yr old AB with 15k, or 53k for Sept. Big drop from 79k purchase price. Slightly softened though by the discount being offered on a new one.
