A very fair point Sir.

Unfortunately, they needed the car for another three working days (to make good the damage that was done to my own car while it was in for service) and the D5 was the only full size Land Rover available at short notice.

Besides, although I don't like most of either the design, or the styling, it must be nice to drive (surely?) and I thought I'd at least give it a go and considered that 5 days' use would be enough to give it a fair crack of the whip Thumbs Up

Personally, I like the "van like" look of it. Park it next to a Defender 110 and the lineage is obvious. It also makes the ultra practical nature of it possible.

Having now run a D5 as my work car for the last two and a half days, I've had an opportunity to properly look at and get used to the styling. The DS might, at a push, be called "sleek". This is, however, an over extended version of the DS' styling and rather than "sleek", it looks to me like a fat and middle aged version of the same car; it may not have eaten all of the pies, but it's certainly had most of them Sad

I agree a 100%! Thumbs Up

Of course the D3/D4 look like a van beside a SUV looking car! That's the point! It's an utilitary vehicle and it's shape will be/is iconic. Bow down
I can garantee that this won't be the case for the D5. Like i said before, it's just like comparing the iconic Porsche 993(last air cooled) and the 996, the follwing model...

As for spotting D5s, ignoring the ones still in captivity at my local dealer which I pass several times a day, I have still only seen two out in public. The most recent one was orange, I had forgotten that was an even more expensive colour option.

Still only seen one (twice) on my daily meanderings around Tyneside since the launch. Question
2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

I wonder how many of those seen out and about are (like mine) loaners and/or demo cars?

Back in the Dark Ages, when the Sierra was launched, it was such an initial sales flop that sales people, like a good friend of mine, were paid just to register test drives on the car - just to get them out there. I know, as the family all signed up for a drive to help him out. Registering loads of them as Dem cars, loan cars and LRE cars would certainly help out if they're a bit short of genuine buyers.

Well if ordering now apparently you won't get it until September.

There are plenty out there, the DS was slow to start but it's now the biggest selling model, personally I think the D5 came out at the wrong time, perhaps should've been out the year before and with better engine options, hybrid etc. The high VED has slowed sales across all manufacturers and the anti diesel campaign doesn't help but it's far from a sales flop.

It's probably a little early yet to decide if it's a success or not yet, I'm going to wait for the first 3 months' sales figures first. It is odd though that there's a waiting list stretching to September, while they've found the production capacity to renew the LRE fleet and provide service loan cars Confused

I reckon the D5 looks like all the other 4x4's just a bit bigger because it is big.Like a Kia / hyunda on steroids.Haveing bought one of the last D4's back last year I was worried that when the D5 appeared I would have wished I had waited and bought a new D5 but I can honestly say I am so glad I got my D4.No way do I covet a D5 Neutral

I have only seen 2 D5's on the Isle of Man - a white and a silver one, on approach they look like a Range Rover and it's only because I glanced in my rear view mirror that I noticed the rear end and off set number plate

There may be more but I might have missed them as they look let like the rest of the current LR range from the front

I will stick with my D4.5 for now Thumbs Up

Each of the cars are easily identifiable from any angle, or perhaps I'm just an LR geek.

It will be interesting to see how many D5's there will be down at the CAMC National Rally at Sandringham in 2 weeks time ?

Saw one in the flesh for the first time today, I think I can get used to the shape of the rear, eventually! I think it may take a while but I prefer it to the Sport.

McGovern and his colleagues have been paid a lot of money to design this car, LR have entrusted their future success to them and LR themselves will charge the buyer between around £45,000 and around £80,000 for the end result.

Is design where you may "get used to the shape of the rear, eventually! I think it may take a while..." really good enough?

Times move on. Predicting the future is difficult. So far, I'd say he has a great record
