As head of design working for a company in a rapidly growing market sector, with ambitious expansion plans (with a budget to match) and a rapidly growing product range, I'd suggest that it's difficult to not sell more cars under those circumstances.

Now that Ian Callum has been allowed to design an SUV, we shall now have someone with whom we can draw more direct comparisons and the F-Pace is now rapidly outselling everything else that Jaguar build. It'll be interesting to see how sales compare with its Direct equivalent at LR

As purchasers of these products, we have every right to scrutinise the designs and point out if they fall short before, ultimately, voting with our wallets as necessary! Thumbs Up

JLR already has the brand name. Discovery also has the brand name. Trust me, it'll take mr Magoo to screw it up.

In the past 2 days all at my sons school I have seen an orange one with a black roof a white one and a black one.
My son likened it to a pigs behind on all 3 SWMBO said they are plain ugly and i just think they are missing a rear bumper like the rest of the disco range has had.

I've managed to get the seat position a little better this morning, which is a good thing Thumbs Up

You're right Russell, the throttle certainly is stiffer and that may be part of the issue, but it does need to change down a lot more often despite the gearing being very similar. For instance, driving along flat dual carriageway (a rare thing in Cornwall!) this morning, at around 65-70, if you need to accelerate to get into the right lane, it pauses for a moment....., then changes down and only then will it start to accelerate.

I shall be driving another example on Wednesday, so I'll be able to check if this one isn't right then.

I've checked under the bonnet; there's a surprising amount of fresh air under there but I've removed the acoustic hood and it's definitely a V6. I'd still be interested to know if it's a single or twin turbo though.

They are all single turbo
Spoke to someone who has a 2 lt yesterday and he is experiencing the same issues as you with lack of power and slow gear changes
Just a thought if it is a loaner has the gearbox learnt the way the last driver drove
My D4 used to be horrid for about a week after it had been in for service and software updates while the gearbox learnt my driving style and the type of roads

It's a thought but, in this case, I don't think that it's down to learning driving style; I've driven it 308.5 miles so far and it's remained fairly constant.

As a matter of interest, having just checked the trip computer, it's averaged 29.5mpg so far, which puts it around 2.5mpg up on the D4's average. It's less than I was hoping, but that's still a difference of about £500 a year for me! Embarassed

Confused That's a bit disappointing considering all the weight they were supposed to have saved. Maybe it's that massive tailgate and the thick bodywork to support it? Shocked

On my recent road trip my ones eco data said 41.2mpg, trip computer reading 38.1mpg. Either way it gave it a range of 621 miles from a tank, so far I'm happy with the economy the 3.0 ain't that much lighter than the D4.

Are all these mpg figures based on brim to brim? My D4 computer always shows estimated distance to next fill up for a tank contents based on current driving conditions including climate. Better in the summer worse in the winter. I only use the brim to brim method for real comparisons. Am I right in thinking that any figures shown by the computer can only be a snapshot at any time.

I'm simply comparing D4 and D5 like with like for mpg. I live in a part of the country with hills in it, which tends to hurt things a little. I'm also comparing trip computer to trip computer.

I know that both of my D4 trip computers were optimistic by about 2mpg (tested brim to brim over 1,000 miles), but they were at least consistently inaccurate. I am only going on the trip computer read out on the D5, as I won't have the time and mileage to do a brim to brim accuracy test.
