My Discovery went places my wife only slightly preferred that it hadn't... some of the more difficult tracks in the Tallarook State Forest, north of Melbourne.
A friend's D3 also came along - Horto - he has the rear diff lock option fitted, and as another friend said "if you drive a D3 like it was stolen, then it will go pretty much anywhere a twin locked D2 will"...
Both of us suffered damage to a rear mud flap, and I shredded a sidewall of the Mickey T's on the shail rocks...
cheers,

Went to Eastnor Castle for the day courtesy of Landrover, absolutely cracking day starting with breakfast and then 2 hours on the offroad course in a new Defender 110 which is not bad (but I wouldn't exchange it for the Disco)! then lunch and then an afternoon of activities including an awesome zip wire from a 120ft turret - 300metres across the lake - even SWMBO did that , clay pidgeon shooting, tyrolean traverse, climbing wall, LR massage , mountain biking. A top day cheers LR 2004 Discovery 3 - gone

not today - Saturday & Sunday... winched out a 7.8 tonne Case excavator, countless 110's, 90's Disco1's Disco2's Rangies - not a single Disco3 8) they just took the offroad course at Driffield in their stride
The lead instructor from LRE Skipton judged a slope i'd driven up & down in forwards & reverse countless times in my D3 to be 'too extreme' for the FFRR G4 he was driving all weekend
At one point I had a 110 tied to a 90 and a P38 rangie hanging off my rear recovery point dragging all three of them across a field
Strangely enough, nobody suggested I get a 'proper' Landrover

The best bit of kit I saw over the weekend was
Unfortunately the fun police curtailed their enjoyment somewhat... still, they got ample opportunity to tw@t it round the section I was managing - and nobody died! 8) the oil slick is due to the oil filter being impacted by the front axle after 'enthusiastically' jumping a mound build by the stuck excavator above

it was plated @7.8 tonnes - as required by EU regulations therefore I assume the mass to be 7.8 tonnes plus the load accumulated by the incline and the friction - probably nearer 9 tonnes I have to admit that 1) I was a bit worried about the noises coming from the winch cable
and
2) the 90 anchoring me made feck all difference fortunately I had a weekends worth of San Miguel in the back, this obviously helped the D3 stay where I intended it to be

It was Sunday morning but given the distance to the 'facilities' i'd recycled the bottles so the mass was the same
Gareth, do you really think a 90 hanging off the back would be enough to stretch a D3 - even with a fat b d at the wheel? the real difference was some wheel chocks one of the other guys had 'borrowed' from a gritter wagon last winter 8)
