W-bus output appeared on my voltmeter as 12v continuous when idle, which fluctuated down to about 8v for 3 short pulses and then back to 12v when the signal was sent to fire or shut down.

RobSmith and 10forcash had a discussion earlier about FBHs which already had pin 2 occupied by a red wire. Mine is the same. 10for cash suggested cutting it but then siad it might need reprograming.
RobSmith, (or anyone else) did you do this and how did you get on? Did you need reprograming?
10forcash, what symptoms would indicate that reprograming is required?

FHB up and running
Wow,
Finally got it up and running ! Rigged up test wires in Feb, no go, but had not seen it working on cold mornings for a while (in fact not since it burnt the power wire on my chip and turned the engine into a smoke generator James Bond would be proud of Recently sent D3 in to get rear wiper motor replaced under warranty and asked them to look at the FHB, Now sorted and test fire worked straight away, After that all worked really well, ran trigger wire around engine bay by popping it inside the bonnet seal, there seems to be a good recess in it and dont think it will rub through.
My truck is a 06 model (55 plate) reg in Nov 05 and had the red wire to pin 2 on the FHB, have connected timer wire to it with no problems i.e. both original and timer wire now connected (but it is early days ! )
Especailly pleased with mounting of timer on interior light panel
Roll on cold winter morns
Thanks again to those great instructions
Just looking now to rigg remote gsm switch[/code]Love landrovers despite all the've thrown at me !
It will still work fine if you cut the red wire - the D3 uses a different wire to turn the FBH on during cold weather Loads of us have done this mod with no problems at all.Previously:

Help - Not working now??
To those who know more about these things that me!
I appear to have the same issue that Tintenter reported earlier, ie worked fine of 4 months or so, but now refuses to fire up.
The car has plenty of fuel and I've changed the battery in the remote. The timer seems to be sending the signal (voltage fluctuation) to the FBH but no fire-up.
Any suggestions welcomed as W-bus is well beyond my simple mind Sail Fast - Live Slow...

Zaphod,
Have a look here and here and scan through the topics for some excellent tips and general info from people that have tried this mod.
If the heater has had three failed starts (got kids repeatedly pressing the remote on/off/on/off???) then it will assume it's broken and prevent a potential disaster by refusing to start.
First attempt is to get it to forget any count of failed starts by disconnecting the power; various members have found that the reset period seems to vary; ISTR I found 10 minutes was fine on mine, but others found it needed longer. Pick your own period and give it a go; either pull the appropriate fuse, or disconnect the power feed to the FBH itself ( I found my key was a perfect tool for opening the catch and releasing the plug).
If that fails, it's dealer/stealer time Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

Stapldm,
Thanks for that! Now you come to mention it SWMBO was actually playing with the remote not knowing what it was It was probably pressed a dozen times or so, so that may be the issue.
I'll try the power down reset and see how it goes.

Stapldm,
It was sunny and dry yesterday, so had time to reset the FBH and the timer gubbins. It ran fine on test, then lo and behold this morning - it ran fine too!
