Pretty much every comment on the D4 or D5 has validity
The D5 is not a D4 replacement - that is clear
Disappointing that there is not a D4 replacement - yes
The D5 viewed as a very good value genuine 'junior' FFRR - yes
(especially when they they and pass off a freelander as a range rover and I'm thinking evoke here) Illegitimi Non Carborundum

It is disappointing that there's no direct D4 replacement but, by the time my current one and (possibly) one extra late used one, if and when it makes financial sense to change again, is all done such vehicles will almost certainly not be an option (due to tax and fuel costs).
So it's probably best to just enjoy what we have and hope lots of people buy shiny new D5's, if only to release as many good used D4's to the used market as possible!

The disco sport is the freelander, not the evoque...that's very different
I'm sure the new defender will be the more logical d4 replacement, but it begs the question...what's the point and order of the lineup, ignore price points. Mike

Evoque is a Freelander2 with RR badging. Disco Sport is a new beast. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Evoque was a new car in many different ways
The freelander replacement is the DS and carries across many F2 stuff - but on a different platform
But then this is the same discussion as D3/4 people had with RRS...which has once and for all been dealt with by the D5 being built on the RRS2 platform Mike

I sat in one for the first time last Sunday, Westover LR were a sponsor at the point to point we went to.
Whilst I know the dimensions, it all felt smaller to me. Possibly this is an illusion due to sitting lower than in the D3/4 and the window line being a bit higher. The "Command Driving Position" of the D3/4, which LR used to make much of, has gone. I didn't sit the rear seats, but they did appear noticeably lower in comparison to the D3/4.
Visually, the boot area appeared smaller to me. Again, that could be an illusion due to the tapering sides.
I came away with the impression that it was clearly an amazing vehicle, but sadly it doesn't suit my needs/requirements. Dwelling on this during the week, it's still the split tailgate which I'd miss the most. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Picked up the other half's brand new Kadjar today, fantastic car and very comfortable. Popped into local LR dealer on way back as we might get a bit more interest from salespeople turning up in a 17 plate car than my old D3.
Showed her and one of our teenagers around D5 to get their unbiased opinions. She thinks its a barge and ugly. Rear seat, well bench actually, is no use for two six foot teenagers driving to Scotland. Very uncomfortable compared to D3 and Kadjar. Boot is a funny shape, and when I opened the boot using the electrics, the silly flap at the back stayed up. Appears if you want to quickly open the boot and put something heavy in you can't until you've freed up a hand or two to lower the flap. Not sure if that was a vehicle fault or design idiocy. We were all staight outside looking at the used D4 stock.
We also looked at an RRS, It is far better inside for a full size family of four on a long journey. Totally lost interest in a D5, but am now wondering about having a more detailed look at the RRS......It has proper seats in the back. D5 is a complete non-starter as a D3/4 replacement. A shame but there we go. No proper versatile/utility vehicle in the range.
And the Kadjar is outstanding by the way, comfort is far better than any LR product I've been in recently. In fact I may quietly swap the drivers seat from it into my D3! Tony

Regarding the drop down flap, if I remember correctly, if you use the boot open button on remote tailgate opens and flap also drops, if you use the button on tailgate only the tailgate opens and theres buttons on lhs of boot inner to drop the flap, not sure if its configurable, didnt get chance to figure that out.

Sounds ideal when you dash out with a heavy box in the rain and use one spare finger to open the boot. Kinda defeats the object of an electric tailgate if you've got to put the box down and find the key in your pocket
I suppose it is quite useful if you store huge quantities loose golfballs in the boot or use it as a small aquarium. Saves fish and balls falling out.
I'm sure those with D5's will not have a problem - I'm just old fashioned and expect a boot to open when I open it. Tony

That looks brilliant..........in a studio environment.
Nice shoes and mucky car? Wet or slippery ground conditions, like er mud or snow?
Heavily laden and leaning back whilst standing on one leg holding something heavy or a child? What could possibly go wrong
They're not selling these in the US are they - land of litigation and large people?
As I said above, I'm sure D5 owners will be fine. Just seems all a bit impractical and overcomplicated when one button could do it. Wonder how long the underchassis button will last..... Tony
