desperate help with srs light please
hi
wondering if someone may help me please ,
have got a srs light on , just bought this d3
read the faults and have included them
the pre tensioner on the passengers seat has fired
removed the passenger seat , the drivers side seat belt looks fine
is the ecm now useless , can it be cleared , my iid won't do it
as far as i know the air bags did not go off
don't understand why the drivers pre tensioner didn't go off and only the passenger side
have never had this kind of system before and don't know where to go from here
are there any tests i can do
assume the ecm module has kept the crash fault in it,
many thanks and hope u didn't mind me doing another thread
is more specific to this fault
ps, found this site to be extremely informative and learning new things by the minute
cheers guys

hi guys
this is what i've done so far
checked and disconnected every single wire underneath the seat ,
checked every connection and replaced the side and front impact sensors
checked wires at the footwell , did notice water to which i've resolved by sealing up the windscreen covers
fitted a second hand pre tensioner , that fault has now gone
don't think the module is at fault as i would assume the iid would tell me if there was a fault with the srs ecm
my next room for thought is removing all the side panels at the back where the side curtain airbags and maybe then onto the headlining, which i really don't wish to go there
but unfortunately i'm pulling my hair out abit because i'm at the stage where i don't know where to go next
i don't wish to put it in the garage if i can help it, as i'm trying to save money to get all my belts and oil pump replaced , quotes are coming in around £500 quid for that
so if i am able to somehow with help will be like an early christmas present for me
but regardless of this fault am over the moon with the D3 , awesome to drive and keep pinching myself when i see it on my drive
thks guys for listening to me gassing
gary

Removing the side panels at the back by the tail gate should expose the electrical connectors.
It does on the RRS.

I would probably say that its had a crash at some point in the passenger side has the light been on since you had it or has just come on usually when the airbag/pretension has gone off the system needs to be replaced that is why so many cars are cat c/d too expensive/not economical to repair you may be better off finding second hand good parts and replace them Discovery 3 se gone

got the battery out as i thought i might as well give it a slow trickle charge overnight
this is going to sound really stupid but on the iid when they say right they do mean the passenger side don't they
put a meter on the battery first before i turned the charger on
I note that it's not long since you purchased this car, and that are a lot of posts from you seeking assistance with problems.

Have you fully researched the history of the car?
Did you buy from a trader - in which case have you considered rejection?

hi
feel really daft as i took the picture with a torch there to show up the impact sensor
something isn't adding up with this , considering i've had virtually every panel off , yet still nothing
no clue in why the srs light is on
second hand air bags are around £30 each , would need two , but in enquiring about these a lot of companies won't deliver them , collection only,
but have found a few who use a courier that will take them
i think ur right though regards an accident , can't see anything obvious , will find out as well about the srs ecu , if it can be cleared or cost of a new one

i done a full check before i bought the car, also my ins company didn't say anything to me
however as the pre tensioner went off i would then assume it has been in an accident
looked around it very carefully and god knows why didn't notice the pre tensioner fault
knew i had the srs light and thought it was something like a loose connection , clock spring etc
i do apologise for posting so many posts , as i do feel guilty keep asking every 5 mins
think i may have to get it down to a garage , was just trying to hold off so i could use the. only towards the cam belts
hadnt thought about rejecting the car as i knew it had faults , it's a steep learning curve for me
will find out how much a new ecm is and get that fitted and go from there
can see the airbags also being replaced, that's two of them that is showing he fault
am very grateful for the help and is most appreciated

thks pete , haven't checked the drivers side
will get to the bottom of it by hook or by crook, even if it has to go to a garage can at least then be helpful to someone else

The reference to which side usually follows the manufacturers convention, ei Right hand/Left hand is sitting in the vehicle facing forward, so a UK spec vehicle the steering wheel is on the right hand side

thks, i better check the other side as well then , lol
would be really weird then , as i can only see the passengers pre tensioner that had gone off
no marks etc anywhere throughout the entire car
but seeing i've got virtually all the panels out would be a shame to not even look
after that seeing i haven't got the expertise and great advice it will be booked in next week to a local garage
if he can't find it , will then have to book it into my local main dealer , but know it's £100 quid to just plug it in
so after tomorrow if i can't see any bad wires, will put every single panel back and then battery back then booked for garage
looking forward to some snow

Why don't you inquire around to see if when the airbag/tentionor goes off if it knackers the ecm which i think it does and has to be hanged before it goes in Discovery 3 se gone
