Robpenrose- the wire that I eventually made looks like Robbies. I struggled to find them at first but Halfords sell them. Search on 'mini fuse with breakout wire'. Discovery 4 Landmark ‘16

Yep, it's as simple as patching the adaptive lights feed to the sidelights.
Not everything is difficult, once the thinking has been done.
amazed that this is so simple...
at some point I'll take my D4 to the auto electrician to get this done --

Yes that's the one. You need 4 obviously and I used a crimping connector to connect them in pairs. Hardest part is getting the existing fuses out! Needlenosed pliers rather than the silly plastic tool which is why I disconnected the -ve on the battery first as Robbie advised. Took all of 10 mins including making the wires. Quick update to say that I have now installed Mark II of this mod. When the car went into the garage the other week, they rang to say that they could not get the sidelights to turn off . I explained and then thought that I should have removed the mod before it went in. Given that it will go into the garage again soon for new front arms and then MOT etc, I have now fitted a switch to each jumper cable so that all I have to do is pull the glove box down to switch them on and off. V pleased with the result.
Discovered a weird side effect that if I only switch one of the jumpers on, both sides light up anyway. I guess there is power between the lights somewhere. I have checked and double-checked that I had plugged into the correct fuse slots, but both switches off = no DRLs, one on (either) = DRLs on.Discovery 4 Landmark ‘16

I've been looking at this thread for a while and I'm fairly sure the mod as described does what I want, to turn on the front AND rear sidelights using unlock button on fob, and to stay on permanently with car unlocked and extinguish when car locked (or on sleep mode, whatever that is). I'm just a bit lost as to the relay mentioned earlier - I can't see it in any of the pics and I'm not sure what it's for. And I'm not competent at wiring - is it something I need to go to the dealer for or is there an Indy recommended here who could do it for me?

I've left the modification so that it triggers the front & rear LEDs from the unlock command, but it takes 2 minutes to change them to ignition switched or to revert to standard.
Cracking work! Were would the links go if u wanted them on with the ignition? And could u have both?
Fairy lights on while car is unlocked and ignition not on and fairy lights on while driving with out the switch being turn on? If that makes sense! D4 Black 2012

As I have it the fairy lights come on when unlocked (but switch off after a while to save the battery) and remain on when driving without using the switch. They only go off at the end of a journey when the vehicle is locked again or, if left unlocked, when the battery saver relay turns them off.
If you want them to only come on and off with the ignition then you simply move one side of the fused links to a suitable ignition-switched circuit and there are plenty of those to choose from.

Robbie I don't think you're far from me - I'm in Lincoln, and I'm in Willingham fairly regularly. Would you consider fitting a couple of these leads to my wagon for a couple of beer tokens next time I'm near you?

I don't know, thats why I was asking.
I have read everything and seen all the photos. So, as far as I can tell its just the 2 small fused wires plugged into the fuse locations as per the photo?
