That's correct, if you look bake through the thread you will see the old/new picture that Iggy posted showing both as exactly the same.IID PRO

Changed this switch after multiple fault messages and worked a treat no more HDC, suspension Faults etc. Thanks all who have posted on this thread.
Has anyone encountered engine management fault light due to dodgy brake light bulbs?

Excellent 'How To' - Thanks.
When...... I have to do mine,I now know how easy it is
Changed brake light / tail light bulbs and have not had engine warning light since. The brake light circuit seems to trigger other faults so I would recommend replacing these to see if it helps before spending loads on expensive diagnostics.

I had these faults in the past week HDC not available etc, i changed the switch for one i had been carrying in the car for about 2years and the fault went but not straight away, it occurred about another five times before it stopped completely. Could it take a few presses of the brake pedal to calibrate the switch.

To add to my above post, the switch has been rolling around in the rear cubbybox for all this time. I can't guarantee that the switch plunger hadn't been moved, maybe this caused it to need to settle down a bit.

To anybody who has done the switch replacement and still has all the issues listed on here, check your rear bulbs. One of the brake bulb filaments fell apart on mine then shorted across the brake filament and rear light filament giving very similar results. Changing the switch and bulb sorted my problem, even though in my case it might not have been the switch at all, but since it is such a cause of bad things I thought it best to replace anyway. I even chucked a new spare switch in the glove box 'just in case'.'

Morning chaps, does anyone know if the switch can be adjusted for the bake lights to come on earlier or later on the brake pedal travel at all? I seem to get brake lights on just resting my foot on the brake pedal. You can also here the gear release selector engaging. Any ideas?

As far as I can tell the switch auto-adjusts when you fit it. As you turn it to lock into position it releases the plunger, after which I'm not sure that further adjustment is possible. I've seen other threads on here suggesting that the whole unit will just become unusable if you faff around with it.
Having said that, I did dismantle the old switch and although it might be a bit of a fiddly job I can't see why it couldn't be 'reset' so to speak. I cleaned the connections up on it and used it for a couple of days while waiting for the replacement to arrive and it worked ok for me, so I guess with a bit of care it doesn't just self destruct upon removal.
The first replacement I got wasn't genuine LR and didn't have the auto-adjust. Neither did it work!! Replaced with a genuine and haven't had any issues since - although it was only about 2 weeks ago.
I know the fitting instructions say differently, but I recon (please don't take this as gospel) that if you depressed the brake pedal just slightly when refitting the switch it would cure your problem, but without further investigation I guess it could just as easily brick the adjustment mechanism.'

Another solution just came to mind but would be wise to get advice from others on the forum - stick a small spacer of some type (only a mm or two) onto the brake pedal arm where the switch plunger hits it. That would/could delay activation of the switch by enough for it to ignore your 'light touch'?'
