If it was you would you go £1750 plus vat for valves not done or £2000 plus vat for complete overhaul inc valves ?

I couldn't say really. I would find a reliable place, with real experts that know the box well and go with what they suggest according to their findings. Best to shop around and try to get people's experiences and recommendations. Thumbs Up

Mark, you're going through all the pain to have it overhauled, if it was me, I'd make sure that the mechatronic unit (the valves) was changed at the same time. You don't want to get it all back together and then find that some of the valves are sticking or worn and have to go through it all again.

Good news on the Diff bearing replacement instead of new diff, that's the way I would go as well. In fact I have a diff sitting here waiting for me to get around to replacing the bearings (not that I have a problem with mine, but its always nice to have a spare!)

I have decided to let the Barley Indy do the front diff and shop about for the gearbox to be done. I have spoke to few and it seems for them to give a full g/tee they want to fit it themselves which I can understand. On the diff side of things if I pay just have the bearings replaced what is the difference between that and recon diff at £720 inc vat, what else would be changed in a recon diff and is it worth it concidering ring mine is a 2005 diff and I am told the later ones were better.

My diff, like many others had just one bearing fail. The rest were fine and so were left alone. My 05 dated diff had done 175K miles before I fitted a replacement bearing. The bearing can be had for around £20. The parts I used are easy and cheap to obtain.

The bearing is listed as 2 parts but both are generally supplied together. These are Timken LM603049 for the cone (contains the inner race and rollers) and LM603011 for the cup. This bearing can be found on the net easy enough.
The drive shaft oil seal is TZB500050 and is around £10 at a dealer or again off the net.

The sealer I used is Loctite SI5660. This is my seal anything sealer and is around £ 5 from motor factors and Halfords for 5.99
Oil is around £15 from Opie.

So doing this job will cost under £50 with the new oil. This is a considerable saving on a new / reconditioned replacement.  Thumbs Up

It is a little beyond my capability but the garage is going to do it for around £270 ( A big saving on £900 fitted for a recon one). On the gearbox front I have told him I am going to shop around as I have been advised on here and will get it done at a place where they take it out recon it and refit it so it will have a decent guarantee with it. If anyone has any ideas or can recommend one in the NW area that will be a great help. Thumbs Up

Car is now booked in at Tameside Transmissions for next Monday (26th). The price quoted is £1750 +vat for taking out full recon inc TC and put back in. This does not include new Megatronic unit. If I need that doing at a later date it would be £1200 plus vat fitted. But if I have it done at the same time it will be £2350 +VAT. It will then carry a 12month or 12000 g/tee. I was told that the TC will be redone as they cannot g/tee it with the old one in even though it was only done 2 months ago. He said they will test drive it first to determine the problems whilst I am there and then take it in. The car should be ready for the end of the week. I have decided to have it all done including megatronic unit as with the luck I have had you bet that will break in the next couple of months Whistle That will take my total spend not including price of car to just under £5000 meaning the car will now stand me at £13,000, grey hair, nervous twitch and scared of any binging or bonging sound whilst sat in car as I think that's more money Shocked But hey as Mr T (tayaste) said "its only money" Big Cry
Lets hope that's it for a while as the family are getting sick of bread and rice every day. Whistle

Best of luck with it. I guess if they have to fit a new TC, you should at least be able to sell the existing one - it must be of use to someone. Thumbs Up
