Hunting on tick over V8,and not out with the dogs or horses.
2005 V8hse auto hunting on tick over from 8/9 thousand revs down to 4/5 then back up again, not a real problem but would like to hear if anyone has the same issue and can point me in the right direction, also just to add some cats to the pigeons when approaching a traffic island lets say breaking slightly and there is nothing coming I would then accelerate but have a delay before the revs come in and take up drive again, if I accelerate with a lot of pedal then there is a distinct clunk from the gearbox as it takes up the drive, if as I say a small amount of pedal then no cluck but a delayed take up in drive , only a second or 2 but it aint right, wonder if the 2 problems could be related, or is that just wishful thinking, probably the latter knowing my luck, anyway I would appreciate any useful direction pointers, even useless ones could be considered useful until proved otherwise, thanks for anyone's time taken to respond, thanks again

I would first check the valve body and make sure it's clean. Remove the air intake ducting and check for a build up of crud just ahead of where the valve closes. This reduces the air flow through the engine at tick over and deceleration and affects the general performance.
