England 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Tonga GreenDiscovery 3

This weekend, I popped to Tesco on the way home and took advantage of there ground floor sheltered car park, We tried to fit the brackets to the a-bar, however 1 spot light bracket went on with ease, the drivers side has been a pig! We actually gave up, one of the bolts on the car was a round headed bolt with a torx hole in it, and it Censored rounded off! So gave up for now until I have worked out a solution.

I hadn't really paid attention to the condition of the lights, TYPICAL ME lol, not complaining about the lights at all, but decided in my opinion that at least 1 needed light restoration and a deep clean, I could see inside the light had a water line on the glass, and it looked like the chrome reflector was peeling off. Luckily it turned out to just be stubborn mould. I took 1 spotlight totally apart, but came across a problem. While I was taking it apart, I had to remove the round gasket which has a lip on it to wedge between the glass and the outer plastic casing. However it was soo badly perished, that it came off in lots of pieces. I managed to get a lot of it back in for now. But need to find out where to get this from.

The light IMO looks fantastic in comparison to what it did.

I will be going at this again on Sunday when I drag my backside out of bed around mid day Laughing

I made some progress after going back a few steps with the headlight DRL modification too. I destroyed lots more of the screws that came with the DRL's trying to attach the clips, to no avail.

So I after lots of thinking, I decided to go from 2mm screws and using 1.5mm drill bits to pre make the holes to reduce the pressure on the screws as they go in as they round off way to Censored easy.
I have now drilled 3mm holes into the clips, and Sunday afternoon I will be drilling 2.5mm holes into the lights where the screws are going to hold the clips on. And hopefully if my other half is up for it, I will be popping to Toolstation to buy a pack of 200 3mmx13mm screws for 50p. And will at least try and finish 1 head light and maybe even get it back together. But I will not be able to get the other headlight done until I get the replacement clips and screws delivered from hong kong.

I am now heading to bed as I am exhausted and suffering from man flu Big Cry

DRL's are now mounted and the internal fascias are now mounted to the lenses. But because I had much more urgent things to do, I had to leave the mod at this stage for now. Hopefully I will be able to finish them later in the week and maybe even have them fitted at the weekend. The next stage will be to wire on the DRL Relays and piggy back the indicator wire, I am not sure weather to leave the indicator bulb in or not as the indicator bulb will technically be not needed anymore. I will leave the sidelight LED bulbs in though and plan on wiring the DRL relay to either dim or switch off the DRL when they are turned on. Or will wire it to the headlights as I don't want to blind people with them at night lol.

I will need to drill a hole in to the main headlight casing too to run the DRL wire to a plug that I am going to cable tie to the main headlight plugs which will be the loom that runs to the battery. Both DRL relays have inline fuses so I don't need to put them onto the fuse box.

More progress on the headlights modding. I was feeling in a good mood and not able to sleep, so I decided to get the wiring finished on the headlights internal looms. All I need to do now is seal the 2 little holes I drilled in the casing of the headlights and put the lights back together, then wire the DRL on. But wiring the DRL on will be the very last thing I do. The indicator will work as soon as the lights are plugged in Very Happy

It is a lot of work, but it is worth it. And the lights will be back together Wednesday. Although I may have to take the lenses apart again briefly as there is dust where I can't get a cloth to lol

After another day of hell, I actually managed to get the lights all back together.

Only got 3 more jobs left to do to totally finish them,

Seal the 2 holes that I drilled.
Fit the bulbs.
Wire on the DRL relay and route the wiring from the car.

The indicator and sidelight are obsolete with the DRL in place as it is extremely bright. For now I have fitted the other bulbs back in place but will most likely remove them on Saturday. I have purposefully gone for a gloss finish rather than a matt finish to help promote the reflectiveness still. So either should be ok. But plenty of other people have painted the internals black without fitting a DRL like mine and have carried on using standard bulbs without issues. So should be ok. 8)

Finally got both headlights properly finished now. Sealant now put on the new holes to seal the light again. And I have also decided to go for it and get the 2nd spot light apart and done. I considered being lazy with it and just fitting it as is. But glad I did as there was mould after all these years of them being used that there was a lot of mould and crap built up inside. Although this light was a lot harder to get apart.

I have bought High Temp heat sealant. And hope to get them done before I head to bed tonight.

Tomorrow see's the front end taking a dramatic change of my Discovery too.

Spot lights are finished but can't fit them yet, Head lights finished and fitted Very Happy Couldn't be happier with the result, I will have to make one more change to the lights though, The indicators do indeed need a resistor.

But I love the finished look.

The front bumper and arches still need to be colour coded to finish that bit off although I am also considering having the nudge bar plasti dipped in silver.

I bought a bolt extractor kit but wasn't successful in getting the bolt out and ran out of time to really have proper go at it. So for now, the spotlights stay off although they are now TOTALLY finished.

I congratulate you on the result, I had sincere doubts at first but the result is very professional and the combination with black background focus seems to me even more successful and beautiful than the original design of LR.

sincerely!! Great job !! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
