England 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Manual Tonga GreenDiscovery 3

Mixture of feelings owing to my stupidity and getting frustrated with the cold. I managed to blow the fuse for the rear left hand side lights and the front left side light, and of course it would be after all the shops had shut Rolling Eyes So got the car home.

However, front fog lights now fitted although not wired up, rear LED lights are wired to the cars main loom although I am worrying that I may have done a wire or 2 wrong but will check tomorrow, and I did the rear brake light loom mod.

So my car now has 4 reverse lights, 6 tail lights and 7 brake lights. Sounds excessive, but who cares lol, people can't say they didn't see my lights now lol.

Yes I did lose the reg lights too as the pictures show Laughing I am blonde, I couldn't help myself but make at least 1 stupid rooky mistake Laughing

We checked the fuses before leaving my Mums and found it was a 10amp fuse from behind the glove box.

The 1 hour drive home was interesting to say the least, looking out for any cop car with my foot near the brake pedal ready to put all the brake lights on to at least make it look like my lights all worked lol.

But made it home safe and sound. And tomorrow I will be going out in the daytime as I am collecting my spotlights from another Disco3 member, but I will be stopping at Halfords and getting some fuses and checking that my wiring was correct. And if not, correcting it on the passenger side. But I plan on coming home with everything working.

Fuse replaced and the reg lights and passenger tail lights lit up perfectly, however while I was cold and in a rush and adding the factor of my hair colour Laughing I had accidentally put the positive and negative wire round the wrong way from the LED's to the main wiring loom and had also accidentally put the LED brake light wire onto the rear fog light wire Rolling Eyes Laughing

But now all sorted although the LED tail light on the passenger side is dimmer than the drivers side, but the brake lights and reverse lights are all just as bright as each other.

So now my car has 7 Brake Lights, 6 Tails Lights and 4 Reverse Lights all working properly Smile

Also met an awesome fellow Disco3 club member owner Paul today to pick up my spot lights. Lovely D3 parked at his lol, I didn't take a picture as it was too close to his house or I would have got a picture of both of hours together.

Next weekend, the spotlights are going on as long as the weather is ok.

The headlights haven't been finished yet though as todays outing took a lot longer than planned.

Just read this all the way through, b@gger me, you have the patience of a saint!!! Car looks really good though. I've had mine D3 for a couple of weeks now, looking at how yours looked, I'm guessing it's the same spec (S?) as yours? Like you, I'm looking at getting rid of the wheels, for something a little bigger and tempted to de tango the lights...
Would like to go for fogs, but currently looking into why the cruise control won't work, do I leave it and put up with it, or dig deeper into what's wrong...

Hi Discostoo.

Glad you have joined the realms of D3 ownership. You are luckier than me, Yours is actually a higher spec than mine. My D3 is not even an S spec.

It came out of the Factory a very basic motor lol. Mine was poverty spec. I believe it is close to GS spec now.

I can be very patient when I need to be. And one bit of advice I will give to you is, any modifications you choose to do, take your time and do them properly the first time instead of rushing them. I am terrible at following my own advice though, but I have modified many of my cars over the years and my cars are very famous in the Ford Community. My best work was a basic 200+ thousand miles Ex Taxi White Ford Mondeo that looked fit for the Scrappy, that ended up looking great, then I swapped it for another car and the new owner treated it like crap and tried to sell it back to me for £950 with a weeks MOT. I have also modified Ford Galaxies, Peugeot 406's etc...

Like you, I'm used to Fords, having owned various Fiestas,Escort RS Turbos and still got my Sapphire Cosworth. I've been in PassionFord for years, if you know of it?

I do like the idea of the factory Xenons, but there seem to be a few with a common fault with the shutters going wrong. However the lights I bought came with a Xenon HID conversion kit installed. So I may re install the Xenons into the lights once I have finished modifying them.

And I don't think yours looks dated at all.

BTW, I bought the original 2004 launch brochures last week along with the first ever accessory brochure fo the D3, and I also have the Press Launch interactive DVD somewhere too lol

The Mods I am doing, are mods that I can easily undo in case I hate the results too lol

And without meaning to, I have accidentally ended up buying 2 Java Black Grills. I will be putting 1 up for sale. I used a snipe bidding programme and forgot all about it lol.

I went out on a long drive today too, and ended up doing a mini photo shoot lol

Think that looks nice! Ok, there's the D4, but think the D3's still look fresh... Think mine would look much better with bigger/wider rims, but will have to save my pennies! Lol
Out of interest, is there much difference in tyre prices for 19's and 20's? Think those 5 spokes you guys have look nice...

Best way to find Tyre prices is to use a site like black circle. But I went from 17" Wheels to 19" Wheels and the tyres were cheaper on the bigger wheels.

But the ride did get a bit harsher.

Looks like my Discovery is now going to kick up a real stinker which will make it a pretty road ornament for a month or so by the end of the week Rolling Eyes Sad

I think the lower UJ is on its way out, I believe an injector is on its way out, the rear handbrake shoes are binding 99% of the time now, or at least the passenger side seems to be, so it will be time for it to have a rest very soon as the Mondeo swallowed all the money when it decided to have a fit leaving the MOT centre after failing the MOT too and needed nearly a monkey to get it through its test.

The Discovery will have to do 2 more important runs this week. And because of money, I am seriously considering having a go at the brakes myself. But don't feel confident enough to do them really.

My Discovery is now a pretty road ornament for now. I am not well enough to go out anyway, had to go to physio and see my solicitor today and now chilling. I have nothing on tomorrow and don't need to go out until Saturday which I will be able to use the Mondeo as my partner isn't working at the weekend.

Not sure what I am going to do about all my appointments next week though. Hoping to be allowed to borrow the D2 for some of them. But won't know until next week.

So annoyed at myself right now, Feel really really ill, I have lost my voice, but I couldn't sleep with all the noises outside, Gardeners, Cleaning company sorting out the hoarders house etc... etc... So I got my drill bits out and drill, and turns out I ordered drill bits that were too small. So now on my way out to getting the next grill tomorrow I am having to buy more drill bits, but I am also now awaiting more clips and screws from the seller in HK, which could mean the lights not getting finished for up to a month which is really annoying.
