I need to do it but haven't plucked up the courage. I'm not the best person to ask as on a techie scale of 1 - 10 I'm about 2. It's in the manual somewhere.
The BCM is the most sensitive of the ECUs, and if it fails, you must act quickly to prevent your door latches burning out (and possibly other stuff). As always though, GAP have made it very safe, and have built in a recovery method to allow the ECU to be re-flashed in the event of failure.
The relevant section of the manual:

Thanks Mr LFW I will not bother ! You know what my luck is like at the moment. I will get gearbox done first ( Monday) and probably bring my tool to Buxton Ice meet and get a little coaching there. Thanks for the wise words again !!! By the way where can I download the manual ? Is it on the Gap website ?

You and Del can do each others...see who has the most luck. The site sponsors do this day-in day-out, and issues are still rare for them. I've only had one issue flashing, and that was with a Nanocom. It was all going so well til you used the word "rare".
Well, DM's mentioned before that he's never had a BCM flash fail since he started using an IID.
Edit: ...and GAP have tried as hard as they can to brick an ECU, but they've not managed it. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC
