HI Guys,
I'm another interloper from RRSport
Somebody of there recommended this thread and I read it with great interest. It's a great mod, makes the car look heaps better (more modern) and unbelievable development and team work from all here. Much better service than you get else, as another member rightly said.
Currently my SatNav screen seems defective (flickering), needs a software upgrade but don't trust LR here, the DVD Navigation System kaputt.... so I'm really interested in this mod however have 2 "small" issues:
1. Has the issue of the map upgrades been resolved? I would need Middle East maps, without this the upgrade is rather pointless.
2. If 1. above is solved could I send my unit to somebody to update to Middle East maps obviously for some remuneration?
On the basis that the above can be resolved or I can find a screen locally with Middle east maps could somebody please confirm the follow assumptions I've made, based on a 2006 RRS SC NA spec with a LR4 BT unit are correct for the functionality of the touchscreen:
1. Navigation works (no TMC in ME)
2. Phone works via touch screen (however contact list is intermittent with LR4 module, better with LR3 module but then limited contact list and only single entries per contact)
3. Reversing camera can be activated in the ccf file with IID Tool from GAP
4. Setting menu works
5. Time cannot be currently be set and will be at GMT so -4hrs from my time.
6. CD changer cannot be operated from touch screen and if attempted may freeze the system (may change)
7. DAB/ Sirius not working currently also not needed as not available in ME
8. 4x4 info works
Really hope this can work as I much prefer the new interface and hope with time all you techie guys and GAP can get things like the CD player, contacts etc working from the touchscreen reliably
Cheers Guy

I see 2 possible ways of updating or gaining access to the system drive. as some of you have tested it with Windozzz, and it seems to understand that something is connected, but it doesnt have a clue what it is.. how about running linux and try and mnt the internal HDD?
or open the screen up yank the hdd out figure out the interface it uses and slap it in an external usb hdd docking station and see if windozzz understands it better, or run linux and try and mnt it that way?

It's not a Windows or Linux issue. The hard drive is protected with an ATA password. Do a google search on "ATA password" and you'll see what I mean.

Don't know if this has been asked or done already but can you go about installing the d4 sat nav in to a d3 that's not had a nave unit fitted. I know there will be a lot of work involved including loom changes but must be less work than fitting a full d3 system in to a non nav car.
It's just a thought I have been having as I would like to improve the spec of my D3s.

Neil, I think the D4 nav can be installed in a screenless D3 but unsure of the complexity of doing this.
Don't rule out the Garmin and D4 surround mod, link is here Linky.
It works very well in my D3S and is not complicated to fit. It's very simple to use, can be updated easily, will take a reversing camera without expensive add ons like a GVIF and if you get yourself an Ecoroute bluetooth OBD add on, you'll also get engine details like coolant temp, boost pressure, charging volts etc. Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos
FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
Twin Brake Lights.
Wing Mirror Indicator Repeaters.
Long Roof Rails

If you have the 6 cd player then you can fit the D4 screen in your car, you will need the speed pulse wire from the abs module, then a MOST loop to connect in to the MOST system, then a gps module and a few wires connecting in to your D3, sounds easy but it's a fair bit of work.

I have been enjoying my D4 navi and i have realised a major difference compared with D3 navi.
My arrow is flashing during navigation and it is not providing me with step by stem information. For example: I have only green line available on my map and it is not telling me when is next turn or which exit to take on the roundabout etc. I have to drive looking constantly at it as there is no audible guidance.
Is there something I can do to rectify it?Disco 3 HSE (55) - gone

Just installed d4 nav in a GS with a lowline audio system...
I used a Range Rover Sport Lowline headunit (model vux500510) as they have an optic most bus (unlike the disco lowline unit) and a built in amplifier, swapped the front panel with that from a disco highline unit so it fitted the d3 climate panel and H trim. Used my iidtool to alter ccf file, enabled high multimedia, BT_Dock... Optic mostbus came alive on the RRS headunit.
Cut the cubby pocket out of the dash, installed the d4/RRS screen, wired up as described by Flacks guide
I also installed a RRS GPS Fin on the roof.
So this set up is fully working on a lowline audio set up with no external audio amplifier, its using the built in amplifier in the lowline RRS headunit

I just found a wreck 2011 wrecked LR4, and am getting the display, So I'll try it out. Apparently this unit had both the forn t and rear camera. Anyone ever tried getting the front camera to work? If so, what are the pin outs? If no one knows, I'll give it a go and post my results. Hoping its just another NTSC connection. I've got the Hiline Harmon Kardon system with park assist, So I'm hoping everything works.....

If they had the front cameras, then they would also have had the control module that manages the image from the different cameras.Bodsys Brake Bible

Would this module work in the LR3/D3? the front end is toast (it was wreck from a front end collision and roll over) as is one of the mirrors, so only the rear and driver camera are available on it, but I'd be down to get the other cameras if I can make this mod happen.
