USB for updating the device itself from a PC, but Firewire from the device to the car.

The connector looks like it only has 4 pins so Firewire vs USB shouldn't be too difficult to determine since USB only has 2 signal pins (the other two are pwr/gnd), whereas Firewire would be 4 signal wires.
TMC, The ROW picture I put up didn't have the TMC connector so I would assume an external TMC would be required as on the D3.

Hi, mines an aftermarket camera, but so long as you connect to the right pins (2&5 IIRC) on the D4 screen I see no reason why any camera will not work, it's just a signal being displayed Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Found one
This appears to be FireWire
I would expect AON to be A-(Receive data), AOP to be A+ (Receive) similarly with BON(P).Cheers, Chris in Cambridge

Previous post updated with more picture!
I don't have a D4 satnav, but looking at photo's it looks like a 4 pin (0.1" pitch) connector which is fairly easy to get hold of.
Given this picture:
I suspect the the connector to be a standard 6 pin FW plug, so would assume there is a 6 pin FW socket on the loom. The reason for not using the extra two pins is that FW power is 5 volt, and as the Orig160 has it's own power supply wouldn't be needed.
The picture I would assume shows a external FW drive, which the SatNav mounts as a drive and then looks for specific files.
Anyone have a D4 and can put up a picture of the update port?Cheers, Chris in Cambridge

Looks like only the 2010/2011 models were updated by FW, from 2012 you can buy updates on USB stick. I did a bit of googling and found this which I suspect is a 2012 model on....
This is USB.

Does that mean the screen is back to being a display like the D3?
What does it use for GPS processing?
