On the D4 Screen, the time on the screen when you have a route planned, is always the 'real' time, regardless of what I have the dash clock set to. (I have the clock set 5 minutes fast generally.)
this morning (because the clocks have gone forward) the satnav clock was still showing the 'old' time. I'm making an assumed guess that the GPS time stamp will stay always at GMT? anyone know more about the GPS signal data?Bodsys Brake Bible

If you set the time on the D4 screen in the settings menu, it doesn't seem to remember it. I'm sure that all GPS times will be UTC (or GMT) and they are adjusted for display to whatever the current timezone is. Afer all, the sattelite doesn't know where abouts on earth you are. Maybe because the D4 screen doesn't actually know the local time, it just displays UTC on the display. This is OK if we aren't in daylight savings time (like now) but when we go to GMT+1, it will be out by an hour.

Correct GPS time is UTC, although due to leap seconds, as of July 1, 2012, GPS time is ahead of UTC by sixteen (16) seconds.

D4 Sat nav in a D3
Having read through the post and looking at various D4 screens for sale, I'm confused about which screen to go for since units with the same part number look different on the back
Some units have a DAB connector some don't, does the part number differ for the ones that do and don't?
The ones I've seen marked ROW appear NOT to have the DAB connector, and the ones that are marked EU do, is this the way to tell?
There is mention of vin locking on some units? is this defined by the date of the unit?
Are map updates available for all units or only those that are not vin locked? Cheers, Chris in Cambridge

The "DAB" connector you refer to isn't for DAB - it's for TMC - traffic messages.
This works if you split the FM antenna feed to the main radio.
I don't know what the difference is between the units marked ROW and EU. If the D4 screen came from a UK car and it's marked either EU or ROW, then I think it must be OK.
They aren't VIN locked. If you look at the diagnostics page, no VIN number is shown. I reckon this must come over the Canbus, which, of course, you cannot connect.
Map updates ... I don't know. The only way anyone will find out is if someone gets hold of a firewire lead and goes to a friendly dealer (is there such a thing?), tells them what they have done and what they want, and try it out. You have to purchase a code, and it's my bet that this code is somehow connected to your VIN number as a check, so that it's only used on one car. However whatever does the update would have to read the VIN number from the D4 screen - and as it's not on the Canbus, it doesn't have one. Therefore ... probably won't work. On the other hand, maybe it will and the code you purchase has nothing to do with the VIN. Only someone going to a dealer and trying it will see. But we need a firewire lead with the right connectors before anything can be done!

Hi, have followed all threads on D#/D4 screen change.
I understand that updates are only possible when a D4 screen is in a D4 LR. It also has to do with VIN. VIN for D3 are different.
Am I wrong?
Maybe someone have found a fix?

Ok, so I assume this picture is now out of date? White connector marked DAB

I assume the blue connector is actually the GPS AE not radio?
This was the one I was looking at which only has a blue connector.

Blue is GPS antenna, white is FM for TMC.
Looks like the one you were looking at doesn't have TMC. So you need a EU one if you want TMC.

I think the answer is nobody knows. Until a firewire connector is found that fits that back of the screen and the update unit, and a dealer is found, we won't know.

Has nobody managed to get a cable from a scrapped D4?
I already have TMC in my D3 so I guess I don't need to worry about TMC, I'm assuming my D3 TMC will work with a D4 screen!Cheers, Chris in Cambridge

I reckon the cable will be integrated into the main loom
I'm not sure if a D3 TMC module will work with a D4 head, as TMC is built in on the D4 and is a separate module on the D3.
