Hi.
I'm considering doing the D4 nav upgrade so I'm looking for a second hand screen.
I've seen some D4 screens being sold with a DVD drive. I thought they had a hard drive.
Whats this for? Do i need it?

The D4 screen uses a hard drive so I have no idea what the DVD drive is for. Are you sure its a D4 screen and not a D3?

Have the DVD drive and hard drive, hard drive for storing CD's on in mine, mine plays films as most DVD players do. Cannot see that being any different. 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

The D4 hard drive in the units suitable for retrofitting into the D3 cannot be used for anything other than the sat nav. It basically replaces the DVD that sits under the passenger seat for the D3 unit. I don't know if the later D4 models are different - I would hope that they are.

Cheers for the info Bodsy, seen that the screen setup is different, thought they would do the same though, sort of skipped that type of unit from a MY08 to MY15, don't know how that happened. 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

if you read the description, it says its been removed from a 2012 model.....
You need PRE 2012 D4 nav screen. Bodsys Brake Bible

I think that's a CD player and nothing to do with the navigation.

That one says 2012 but i have seen other screens being sold with that drive from a 2010 cars, just cant find any right now.
Just looked up the part number and it's description is mp3\cd player.
my bad.
Looks like some sellers think its part of the navigation system.

After reading this entire thread on this D4 conversion & doing more research
I have a few Questions  
mms
1. DAB- has anyone got this to work in the conversion - my US D4 nav screen does not have a plug
anyway. should i look for one that does?
2. Is the SAT Radio transmitted via MOST cable? (Sirius module ->radio head unit ->nav screen?
3. The "A" in the code AH22-10E887 verses the "B" in BH22-10E887 any known differences?
(does this have to do with DAB? )
4. TCM will it work here in the US? (splice cable between radio & D4 head module but plug in where on
nav screen?
**Final Clarification on functions that Should be working on D4 in a D3 enivonment
A) Nav
B) Radio
C) Satellite Radio
D) Bluetooth/Phone
E) Front and Rear entertainment/DVD (I have this already)
F) TCM -Traffic info on Nav screen
G) Rear Camera
H) 4x4 info
I) Do USA D4's need a cable whatsoever spliced into the radio head module? (black Fakra plug in pictures)
If so, where does is the other end of this cable go?
Again - I have all of these features already on my RRSsc just wondering what is still going to work.

Here's what I understand. Anyone please feel free to correct me.
There's no DAB as we know it in the UK and Europe in the US. The DAB receiver in the D3 won't work in the US.
I believe there was a Sirius satellite receiver available for the Disco. At least there are option to enable it in the Nanocom. It would be on the Most bus, and need some kind of antenna. I don't know if the interface for it is built in to the screen. I would guess that there is another version of the screen for the US.
Take a look at Wikipedia concerning TMC. Certainly the TMC receiver in the D4 screen won't work in the US. It uses FM, and I suspect the TMC is different in the states.
I don't know what the differences are between the A and B versions, but I'd bet that there are differences between the US and rest of world versions.
I think nav and the radio controls will work. The 4*4 info should too if enabled in ccf.
My D4 Bluetooth module works perfectly.
Reversing camera will work when I fit the camera!
No idea about front and rear entertainment, although I think if the ccf file has the right settings, it stands a chance.
Having said all that, if you have a RRS, then I'm not sure what you would gain from fitting a D4 screen other than a more up to date interface.
You would need an IID tool to enable the reversing camera. Gap are currently looking to see if DAB will work, and I mentioned to them that I thought the CD controls should be on the screen too, like it is in the RRS. I'm sure you would need support from someone like Gap to get this to work.
