Did all the wiring yesterday, plugged it in at lunchtime and BINGO! works a treat. TMC isn't working and I thing that's because its looking for the right radio channel data (classic FM) but on the D4 radio. Not sure if TMC comes through DAB as well or not? Perhaps once Nubber has the DAB module working, it will help?
Updated the CCF for the reverse camera and that works a treat also.

Just got to tidy the wiring up
I'm in Hong Kong at the moment, so no chance of doing anything this week!
I thought that the TMC data was broadcast on FM, but I found this post: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic68166.html and it shows some different connections on the back of the head unit. One looks like a FM radio antenna connection? I'm not sure what the head unit is, but the poster's signature signature shows a 2010 model LR3.
Does the D4 have a TMC module like the D3?

I'm ashamed to say I have a D3/LR3 GVIF unit sitting on my desk for almost a year - so just to recap are the pioneers now saying that if you get the right setting in the CCF, you can hook up a rear view camera to the these D4 nav screens in a D3 without needing to buy the D4 GVIF ?
Certainly that is my experience and that of Bodsy since he fitted his screen Stu yes
all I need to do is add the camera that is currently sat on the rear cubby lid to get an image Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Does that need to be an NTSC or PAL camera?

Right them guys, here we go!!!
So remove D3 screen and surround from Car,
compare the two units and see how the D4 bezel doesn't fit in the centre of the H section trim.

Then trim the sides immediately to allow further fitting testing
as per the thread fitting instructions start by removing the bezel on the D4 unit and the upper mounting points 1 screw and both are body riveted, a simple twist with a pair of pliers and they come straight off
from here we remove the D3 bottom mounting plate which we need to re use, I have a RRS screen so some further mods had to be carried out to get it to fit, this involved cutting notches for the RRS screen alignment guides and removal of the rear section as cut out to allow clearance from the bottom of the Screen to allow it to locate correctly onto the base.
First I cut the top bend edges so the plate was flat and I could then mark it up for the top edge notch I need to cut out for clearance on the base of the D4 screen for clearance

then

I then on a flat surface had both screens side by side and measured the D3 front securing feet to the flat surface.
I then positioned the D3 mounting plate onto the D4 screen to get a similar mounting position and then used the D4 base plate to mark the mounting holes to drill then on the D3 mounting plate to get it to mount where I wanted it 2 at the top and 2 at the lower area

from here I moved back to the bezel which need to be cut at the bottom edge like the original D3 but not quite as much!

this is the D4 bezel I trimmed to approx. like this

I then test the unit for operations once I had the unit fitting into the car with the H trim sitting correctly.
the results where it works!! BUT EVEN MORE IMPORETANT THE RSE WORKS TOO!!!!!

RSE working by switching on via the head unit

so I then ran a speed sensor extension and the GPS extension to the passenger seat area from the Dash board area.

Now to answer another question that has been asked, YES DABS UNIT WORKS!!
I didn't get reception or able to enter the mode, as I need to enable it in my CCF, but the head unit recognised it and did a mock up of powered DABS unit

so once an aerial is fitted hopefully it will burst into life

Good news about the DAB unit. I think that if you put an FM antenna in the other FAKRA connector on the head unit and enable it, TMC will work too. I guess it might be possible to use the antenna from the radio, with a suitable splitter.
Where did you pick up the MOST bus from for the DAB unit?
It's quite a simple fit, just time consuming Robbo, rear camera replaces the inner number plate light, wiring for the screen runs from the tailgate handle up the inside of the upper tailgate to the headlining, then down the passenger D pillar trim, behind the nearside cubby and boot panel to the C pillar trim, then behind the inner wheel arch trim and cill plate to the passenger seat, under the seat last the nave drive to the centre consume, then up to the screen
Middle two pins on the 6 pin grey connector
Just a bit of a faf in the cold today
The camera then just needs power connecting in the tailgate and the screen enabling with the IID to get the pictureAltox GSM FBH controller thread

well day two been busy making up permanent connection adapter connectors
so here we go I have found that the pitch and spacing is exactly the same as the core of most BMW flip and lock connectors, some of you are very familiar with them recently on the D4 to D3 steering wheel conversions....
so get some via the scrappies!! and strip them down and then cut them down to the size required for the new D4 touch screen
so this looks like this when fitted
much stronger and not likely to get tugged out
same on the bigger one as tested on the D3 touchscreen
now that was the easy side of the connections!
I then did the same for the connection to the D3 original connector with a mod to allow the connection to be made I solder in some pins to make the female into a male connector for each of the cables I required
into the connector
can any one see the mistake I made????

so have the 3 video feed to integrated via the 6 wire wired block I have already made up, so that will be the TV in, the Rear camera and the venture camera.
still to get power to the DABS unit which needs to be for the sound etc via the MOST circuit , going to stash it in the drivers side floor well are of the centre console as there is nothing in there .
