Hi all,
LR is now proposing to take 60% of the repair which still leaves me with 9000 CHF ( 7000 GBP) to pay
I think that if it is a well known problem on their side with 4 years and 80 000 km it is a bit early to have an engine breakdown.... I would like to have a full replacement or at least 80%.
What do you think about it ? I have heard a similar case that was fully repaid...

If that's their first pitch, then yes I would haggle.

Title Crankshaft/Crankshaft Bearing Concerns - TDv6 Diesel Engine
Category Engine
Last modified 06-May-2014 00:00:00
Symptom 499000 Basic Engine
Content
Issue:
Crankshaft/crankshaft bearing failure - TDv6 Diesel Engine.
Cause:
Low incidence of crankshaft failure are being encountered, caused mainly by incorrect location of the main bearing shells during assembly, or through rotation of the shells during normal use. A new procedure has been implemented to ensure:
- more rapid resolution of customer concerns, and
- greater visibility of failure modes in order to improve repair process and parts delivery.
Action:
For any suspected crankshaft/bearing failure, please contact your local Dealer Technical Supportor FRED team for details of the enhanced customer handling procedure.
The list below summarises typical symptoms of crankshaft/bearing failure, but please contact your DTS/FRED team if in any doubt as they will be pleased to offer assistance:
· Crankshaft is seized, engine cannot be turned either via starter motor or crankshaft pulley bolt.
· Oil sump or engine cylinder block is holed, with oil leakage and/or metallic debris found on engine under-tray.
· Engine makes a loud ‘rumbling/knocking’ sound when running which worsens as the engine is placed under load. The engine oil pressure warning light may flash or be continuously illuminated, especially at low engine speeds.

My last mail to JLR corporate after sales:
I am now since 9 week without a car and without any comprensation...
The engine sent to replace mine had a problem, so they have to re-order a new one meaning 3 weeks more to wait for my car....
"I should normally have taken back my car today but on Wednesday I have been told that the engine which was delivered to them to replace mine had a threading problem ( actually a thread was missing on one of the connections below the engine, near the oil sump). I am a bit astonished that at first with a known engine failure nothing has been done preventively to fix the problem on already dispatched engines and that additionally now the replacement engine is also faulty and came out of the factory with an obvious problem without being noticed… ?
My incident happened in September, it is now 8 weeks that I have to find alternative solutions every days to go to work as I live in a remote area ( hence the Discovery). This situation is becoming more and more difficult and annoying for me to plea for lifts to work with my neighbours every days. Now I just learn that I have an additional 3 weeks without car ( min 10 days of delay for engine delivery…) due to another LR problem. With a 8000 pounds bill at the end I would appreciate if Land Rover could help me to find alternative solutions to replace my car in the meanwhile. Some days I have had to rent cars which adds up to the bill. The origin of the original problem and now of this additional delay should be acknowledged by Land Rover as it is not my fault but still, as the customer…, I have to cope with all its consequences ? "
And no answer....

Ok. I talk today with someone from LR official importer, and they said that SSM71816 information is just advice to workshop if something is wrong with engine. This is not a recall and nobody will change my oil pump for free. If someone of you will decide to claimLR in the court, please post information about the results. In my opinion they should consider this a disadvantage in terms of a dangerous product defects, and public official recall.

Hi Doncuba, in a previous thread I read that someone here in Switzerland, did sue them and had a full refund...but it took him over 9 months and some money. At the end it is time, energy and harassment for a long while.
The argument that it is a safety concern is true because when it happens you have only a few second to pull over and park on the side. If it happened to my on the motorway at high speed and by night, I wouldn't maybe be here to speak about it...
