Nice one, Barnie Thumbs Up !

8 counted for over 200 000miles. Thats not so many as i thought.

Edit: Do we know if these hi-milage ones are original engines that has not been replaced?

Will be interesting to follow up if there will be more engine brakedowns in UK also from above 200k miles.. But ofc the driving pattern also have a saying here..

There is another thread that I cant find that list owners (like me) that have had their D3 since new and how many miles they have done. Most will have had same engine and I think thread mentions those that have changed it.

Have tried to search the forum, but havent found this thread, Barnie.

But do you guys have ant records of how many engines that have failed because of bearings on the this forum?

Its interesting that JLR released the bulletin whit this problem last year, but Im missing a clear instruction/guidance from them telling us owners what we can do to minimize the chance for these bearings to collapse.

Adding additives to the oil? Other oil type? But we dont hear anything.

Have anyone here thought of contacting JLR on behalf of us D3 owners to get some answears?

What are you guys thinking of this? Is it okay for you that your 10years old cars engine brake down? Will you just replace it like that?

Here in Norway the cost of replacing engine is soon as high as the value of the car itself.. Well maybe in a few years anyways..

Pictures ended up backwards Embarassed

Spun a main bearing and crank broken in 2 places. Still ran (to an extent) but made some pretty horrific noises...

2nd hand engine from EJ Thumbs Up

This one wouldn't reverse up a slight slope, even in low box

Yours isn't an 08MY is it?

Im sorry to hear phil1982. Sorry to say its expected to hear about more of these brake downs as well beacuse of the bearings.

What model year? And what are your driving patterns? Does the car stay unused over periods, or is it used frequently?

And what about the oil change intervals? How often (miles/km) and what type of oil?

Thanks for the info, phil:)!

Reason I ask about the driving pattern is that the tdv6 has problems with oil lubrication. Specially because it takes some time to generate oil preassure on this engine and because of the typical v6 design. And there are lots of questions about the oil quality. Castrol is said not to have a top quality. Tests shows this also.

When the tdv6 is left unused for a while, the oil runs oit from the bearings (because of poore oil quality). And when you then start the engine, it takes some time to generate preassure, meaning there are turns where the bearings do not get oil lubrication!!!

But what oil have you been using and how often changed? And have you changed filter each time aswell?

I dont know, but it seems like you guys replace your engines without any hesitation;). The cost of new engine and labour here in Norway are enough to ruin people!
Ofc if you get personal help alot is done. But there must be hard to swallow also in UK if you let a garage do the entire job?
