Great analogy.

So, if I understand correctly, the vehicle has to be put in TTM by the technician performing the alignment, right? What happens if they don't have a diagnostic unit? Does an IIDTool allow to turn on TTM?

Yes IID Tool allows you turn on/off TTM.
Ideally it is done by the technician performing alignment, but if it is not available at the alignment place you can get it turned on at a dealer, drive over to the alignment place, get the alignment done, then go back to your dealer to turn it off again.
No harm will be done driving limited distances with TTM on. The only thing that will be happening with TTM on is the EAS will be working overtime to maintain correct heights. Dennis

Disco_Mikey wrote:Also why you should really calibrate the suspension before an alignment
This is what I would intuitively think.
I can't see the sensors being 'that' precise without a calibration.
In the absence of TTM (or without calibration for that matter) wouldn't manually measuring the heights obviate the need for it, assuming that a couple of height changes could end up bringing it within the TTM parameters if not already? Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Thanks for the answer nighthawk.
So, should the car stay with the engine running during the wheel alignment for ttm to function correctly?

Not 100% sure about this. I think that IDEALLY you would leave the engine running, but I don't think it's standard procedure.
I just leave mine with engine off and ignition on as the garage people insist on me turning off the engine.
I drive to the place, stop a few hundred meters away. Set TTM using the IID Tool, proceed to alignment place (this driving time allows the suspension to adjust and settle in tight tolerance). Following alignment just switch TTM off and job's done.
During the alignment I never noticed the suspension doing any changes (no farting from any corner). I get the feeling that it's more important that TTM is on until you drive onto the wheel alignment machine, rather than during the alignment itself, but obviously best if it's left on throughout. Well, just had my wheel alignment done. Drove from home to the garage (3km away) with TTM on. Garage insisted I turn the engine off as usual even though I told them about air suspension etc, so again I left it just with the ignition on.
When alignment was done, I asked if I could drive round the block (still with TTM on) and back onto the ramp, a sort of friendly challenge to their insistence to turn the engine off. Well. Drove around a while, took a few aggressive corners, drove back up, all hooked up again... and still spot on and all green boxes on the computer screen
Admittedly the alignment was already very good to start with. I just went to do it because I just changed hub carrier bushes and also had my steering a couple of degrees to the right when driving straight so wanted that fixed. Just needed some toe adjustments on all 4 wheels and a caster tweak at the front. Surprisingly the camber at the rear was spot on despite the upper and lower bush replacements.
So yes, ideally the engine is running, I think that will give best results. But having the engine off is probably OK too as long as TTM is engaged beforehand. Definitely miles better than having the engine running without TTM engaged IMO. Dennis

Man £120 is a lot, thats 145.72 Euro, I just replaced my front lower wishbones and took the D3 over to a local guy. All 4 wheels tracked and then balanced for grand sum of €50 inc Vat. Must be much cheaper here in Ireland than the UK, 99.9% of the stuff for Land Rovers cost much more here in Ireland than in the UK.
Pleased I have found something cheaper here in Ireland than it is in the Uk for a change. Dale

Wheel alignment geometry with spacers |
|
Can anybody advise if (25mm) spacers will interfere with a wheel alignment / geometry set up? Have some new ones to put in but wondered whether to do it when tyres fitted or after geometry sorted?
Thx, 33370 Fargues Saint Hilaire
