Sorry everyone, I do seem to be making lots of use of the forum asking daft questions - I am searching first though, so I don't think this has been raised before.
I took my new car out yesterday on its first proper dark run, the headlights are interesting - I had bi-xe none on my old Merc and the Land Rover does seem to illuminate much higher, but that's not a problem, I just get to see a lot more of the countryside as I drive 
What is more worrying is that there is, every 30-60 seconds or so what I can only describe as a flicker, but it's only on a small part of the beam pattern if that makes sense - the top right hand side of the high beam spread seems to flicker off and then very quickly illuminate once more.
I have auto headlights and auto high beam, so it may be a part of this, but I'm also concerned that it may be a problem with the motor (or is it a flap on the Discovery?) which moves the beam from dipped to main.
Of course, it could just be something that all Discovery's with Xenon lights do, so I thought it best to ask

is it an hse?
are you experiencing the cornering lights which come on as you turn into a corner and then go off as you hit a straight road?

Trying to fit my answer to your question and description, you shouldn't experience any flickering. Auto has nothing to do with that, it's just a system that turns lights on when it's dark enough. Do you have AFS (turning bi-xenon's)? This sometimes gives the impression of flicker as the car turns and the lights follow. Maybe a small video could help.

It is indeed a HSE - I have an orange icon on startup of a headlight with a left/right arrow, which at least suggests that I have AFS, but if that's the case, I don't think it has a massive effect - my last car, Mercedes E250, had a very obvious cornering effect (but as I say, I've only driven it once in the dark).
I shall take a ride out in the next few days with cornering in mind, and setup the gopro to see if I can capture the effect

My XJ does the same thing, only on the drivers side
My research would indicate that the bulb is coming to the end of its life
You can get them for the Jag at EuroCarParts and they also sell an updated one
