For a tad under £600 tracker fitted and 3 years subs now seems a bargain for piece of mind.

Guys,
Thanks to everyone for your comments and notes of support.
On the subject of trackers, and the various devices mentioned well as has been said it's not the place on a public forum to state what the situation is with my stolen disco 4 and tracker systems.
Let me just tell you all that the feedback I have had from CID and other companies involved with insuring high cost and hence high risk vehicles, is that sadly when it comes to acting as a deterrent to profesional thieves who steal to order, they are next to worthless, and are far too easy to get around, as we now know to our cost! Everybody making out like a tracker is peace of mind, it isn't, and I love the polices reaction that it will be long gone by now.
That approach makes there life easy.
I there's every chance it's parked in a lock up not that far from you. When there took they don't go to far in fear of it reported and the ANPR pinging.

Just read this post, gutted for you and even worse is the insurance company attitude. I know it's pretty standard policy but no loan car is really poor. You can crash and it be your fault and they loan you a car but some scrote nicks your pride and joy and it's tough . Weeks for a payout then a factory order of another, what are you supposed to do in the meantime???

The whole situation is not good, you have my sympathy!
I'd be of the same feeling as lespes, would have to get rid if I got a stolen vehicle returned.

Agree the go local route;
Had two cars stolen in one go by a crack head coming in the house and lifting the keys. Total value about £100k at the time. He had the nerve to enter the (occupied in early evening) house, quite some way, not just by front door. Then removed one car to bottom of drive, took the other one away and, according to police, would have been coming back for the second one if I hadn't noticed two dry patches on drive where cars had been minutes earlier.
The first car was found about 300m away as the crow flies, about a mile by road, neatly parked up in some private OAP home (the reason it was spotted was no one knew who's it was....).
Years back when twocking was a hobby for many found my brothers Capri (yep that long ago) neatly parked up on well know 'council estate' in the area. Mileage suggested it was regularly used and would have been until spotted/stopped/raced the cops (cops said often just used as a local 'taxi' by a group of people and torched when bored, etc.).
I know the stomach churning feeling well and it spooked my kids for ages so keep checking they OK and reassuring them, etc.
Hope something good comes from this, recognising that really that just means insurance gets sorted pronto

This won't help, but you might laugh. As a student I had a pretty old Ford Escort which had a few issues. It had a coolant leak and the fuel gauge didn't work properly, so at half a tank it showed empty.
Anyway while in a Uni lecture, car is stolen. I report it to the police and two days later I get a call from them to say it is parked up about 1.5 miles from where it had been stolen. It seems the fuel can I kept in the boot full of water to top up the radiator was mistaken for petrol. When they saw the fuel gauge reading zero they topped it up with the can and the engine must have stopped pretty quick. The car was full of brief cases and other stuff, turns out they had broken into loads of cars stealing stuff and then made off in my car, until they decided to top up the fuel tank with water . The irony is it had half a tank of petrol in it.
Drained the tank, cleaned the carb and it fired up straight away. They did nick the radio and my CD's though

Police and tracking not always a waste of time ....it is all down to timing IMO ...this demonstrated from a house burglary in the Surrey area this evening
Quote:Surrey Roads Police â€@SurreyRoadCops 11m
Short pursuit resulted in 4 prolific burglars being arrested. They were trying to get away from where they had left a stolen Range Rover
Surrey Roads Police â€@SurreyRoadCops 12m
@SurreyRoadCops The Range Rover was stolen today by means of burglary and has been recovered undamaged. #teamwork #relentlesspursuit
Surrey Roads Police â€@SurreyRoadCops 14m
@SurreyRoadCops Great team work with RPU pursuing and other teams assisting. All four will be held overnight for interview in the morning
