Trust me Nigel... They will have it laid up in a reasonable street at the moment where it will blend in with the other cars. They do this to determine whether or not it has a tracker on as they don't want to take it back to their lair which exposes them....
They will then change the visible vin which is incredibly easy..... They often won't bother with the electronic one ....
The car will then be offered for sale slightly cheaper than normal in one of the main publications...that is why is is imperative to describe your car fully to us as it will now be bearing another identity,
Ie what colour, what colour leather, what added extras you put on it I.e adaptive headlights, cameras etc what wheels you had on it tyres etc....they will not change these unless they are really noticeable...
Re scratches marks etc their must be some markings if only minor and this is what will ID it in the future so think long and hard....
This is not only to help you get it back but also to save some poor person buying it.... That will be a £30-40 k loss for someone otherwise. The current law says that even if they bought it in good faith title cannot pass to them so they lose everything...

I agree with FC about them parking this car up somewhere first, a friend of mine had his new X6 stolen from his house near the Germany/Dutch boarder. A few days later the Dutch police found his and over 20 other German high spec stolen cars all parked in the same Dutch multi story car park waiting to be collected. On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

How's about hardwiring a cheap old smartphone and hiding it deep in the car. With a giffgaff sim card it would cost a penny to keep it live just in case the car ever got nicked?

These scum are clever and work in extremely well organised groups.
I used to live on a farm for 4 years and one day returned home to find around 8 police cars and local press. Turns out the RangeRover repair business in the barn was a sophisticated ringing operation and they must have had a different car in there every 2 or 3 weeks. Always wondered what they were doing when these things would arrive late at night and would very quickly disappear inside.
It pays for us all to remain vigilant to these people as they often 'work' right under our noses. If the car is down some quiet side street that is possible but highly unlikely unfortunately.
I really hope it gets found - you and the family must be feeling very shaken. I will be keeping a look out for you.

Sorry to hear.
It may sound silly, but is it more likely to be parked right under your nose? Because the scum that stole it, know the police will be looking at docks etc? Or is that to smart for people like that? 2009 Discovery 3 HSE - Gone

There was a post recently, either on here or RRS, they had a quote for insurance, asked if they fitted a Tracker would that get him a better price, No, apparently, it would be classed as a modification and incur a higher premium.
You can't win.
