My question relates to the nylon bush fitted to the factory rear recovery eye.
Can I please get a confirmation from Mitchellbros4x4 that once the hitch is fitted that a hitch receiver shackle bracket can be used for snatch or winch recoveries when no trailer is attached.
Example of a hitch receiver shackle
Thanks

Hi PCH,
The receiver hitch is exactly the same size as a HR and most other heavy duty towbars and therefore accepts the standard 50mm size tongue and definately will accept the 50mm recovery hitch show in your post.
Sorry I was not as explicit in my question as I should have been.
Will the nylon bush be damaged when the hitch is subjected to sensible sudden loads that you may expect in a snatch recovery. Sensible is hard to describe because there are some people that think a snatch recovery needs to be perfomed at break neck speed: lets say you put 1 m slack in the strap and the recovery vehicle moves off at slow speed to take up the slack.
Also the bolts used to fix the hitch will they handle such shock loads?
Thanks,

Hi Chris,
The bush is constructed of extremely hard nylon and utilises a taper lock system with internal crush tube to ensure the bush is retained in its place. The bush is able to withstand extreme shock and static loads and has proven itself in testing.
The main bolt used is minimum half inch and able to withstand extreme shear type loads but will bend in the case of overloading. This is an in built function to ensure other components will be damaged before the vehicle or any of its components.
We have designed and constructed this hitch strong enough to handle anything you can throw at it.
Thanks for your explaination. It fully answers my question.

Aaron,
And I have one question too. Has anyone worked out a solution for the rear sensors to perhaps turn them a little so as to be able to use them with the hitch in place? It would be easy (as per normal) to remove the tongue - but still have the sensors work correctly with the hitch in place? This is my only concern prior to putting in an order.
Thanks,

The sensors do go off with the hitch in place. It is possible to disable the inside ones, remove the hitch or switch it off when you have it on but we are looking at twisting the inside sensors so the point away from the hitch.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Aaron is still awaiting the return of the hitch from the engineer.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi Bob,
The sensors, we are working on. We already know that they are triggered by the hitch, if only the hitch was an inch shallower. We are investigating turning the 2 inside sensors 90 degrees clockwise (RHS) and counter clockwise (LHS). This should change the sensor spread pattern enough.
If anyone can suggest an alternate method, maybe a switch or electronic fix, we are open to suggestions.

Does JH972's hitch cause the sensors to go off and if not what has he done to solve this?
PS I am also looking at the Mitchell bros hitch for my D3 although it would be something that I would only use (at the moment) for intermittently towing a box trailer and so would be taking the hitch on and off when not being used (if that is easily done without damaging the bush)?regards
Peter

Hi pbhawkin,
The sensors are affected by our tow hitch (we are working on a fix at the moment) and seeing the photos and comparing the BRS hitch, they most surely will also affect the sensors.
You will have to try very hard to damage the bush, it is made of very hard nylon and is very tough.

Towing Hitch
Hi Aaron. I'll be ordering one - when does prod start?
Connected my Camp-o-matic O/R camper trailer up today on the standard hitch and the trailer is close to 100mm too lo in the front, plus the hitch looks an absolute joke re departure angles. Disco is only 2 wks old, so I'm just starting to get all the 'bits' sorted.

Hi Martin,
Production has started, components are being laser cut at the moment, expecting delivery mid next week. We need a few days after that to assemble all components and send to powder coaters. Should be available for sale in early December, hope you can wait that long??

Hi All,
We have the engineering certificate for the hitches, received it in the post today. We are now in full swing to having these hitches available for sale by early December.
Thanks to the handfuls of people who have ordered and prepaid for their hitches, we couldn't have done it without your support.

Towing Hitch
Good work Aaron. Can you post some photos when you get a chance?
What's the price delivered to Adelaide?

Does the unit come with the receiver? If it does not can you use standard LR supplied receiver that is rated at 3500kg and 350kg down load. The sticker on the receiver says "only to be used with LR hitch part no xxxxx".
Thanks
