Hello,
On my computer, where we left it, I have just about finished the drawings for the laser cutter (there was a couple of things I have tidied up).

I am on holidays on the Gold Coast and took the family to Seaworld; on teh way I spied a Gold TD SE with the new hitch! I took some photos and will load them when I'm back in Perth on Friday! It looked really good! Not sure of it will fit with a Long Range Tank.....?? It's guaranteed to be better than the LR Hitch.
But will it tow an off-road trailer? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

CaverD3 and Aaron,
Presumably, when the Mitchell Bros hitch is removed, you can use the OE LR hitch (ie. the hitch receiver is unaffected) - so have a choice of which hitch for different applications?
Also - can we see a pic of the new hitch removed from the car? Also, what is the "bush" that was mentioned that might need to be replaced?
cheers,

Hi Simon,
You can use the OE hitch when our hitch is removed.
The bush is a hard nylon taper lock system with steel crush tube centre. This bush is difficult to remove once installed. We have designed it this way so it would not rattle, causing damage and undue noise.
Does this answer your question??

Just had the following email from HR re their bar to fit the D3 with auxiliary fuel tank. Am now feeling really peeved as this leaves many of us up the proverbial creek. Looking forward to following this link.
FROM HR:
As you have probably established Chris Scott has left our business, however I apologies that this has not been followed up with you.
Having reviewed all the work we have on I don't believe we will be pursuing this bar. While I understand your need for a bar like this it's simply not going to be a commercially viable fitment for us given the cost of the development etc.
If you have any other questions about Hayman Reese products please don't hesitate to contact me again.
Regards,
Simon Rodwell

Mitchell bros don't have a hitch to photograph at the moment. They are being tested I think.
Once they have the final product all details will be released I am sure. The bush is in my recovery eye and isn't coming out without destruction I suspect. This hitch should be nice and quiet because of this bush. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Oh the joys of being back to work after 6 weeks hols - no time to even look at the forum.
New Disco is now 2 weeks old and I've managed to cover about 400Km's - which included about 300Kms last weekend. There seems to be little of the tubo lag, etc pulling away that some have reported and the whole vehicle drives beautifully There is hardly any noise from the BFG's (far less than in the Pajero) - so very impressed.
Now, re Mitchell Bros hitch. All looks great and I'm 95% ready to order - the one concern I have is that it puts the pivot point for the Treg Hitch out (as in away from the car) by about 110mm to a total of around 305mm (approx). Does anyone have any idea of what impact this may have on towing stability?
Also, from your post CaverD3, it appears that the bush is a press fit - does it need any special tools to install?
Cheers,
Martin

Ask Catweasel about stabitity as I think his ends up almost as far out. Also the BRS hitch also sticks out, some of the SA guys may be able to give feedback.

The bush clicks in when the bolts are tightened. So no tools required. We are going to see if mine can be removed without destruction though. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Does anyone know if this hitch can be used with a Kaymar rear bar and tyre carrier and suitable for towing using the HR Weight Distribution Hitch attachment (without using load levelling bars)?
It's either this or the new HR bar and no auxiliary fuel tank!! Kaymar rear bar and tyre carrier; Safari Snorkel: ARB under-bonnet compressor; LRA fuel tank; Winch, bullbar; Cibie Super Oscars; Rhino Platform Roof Rack, Reversing camera; Traxide auxiliary battery system, 17" rims - Cooper ST.

When we have the a prototype back after testing Hagis will check if it will fit with his Kaymar bar.
Although the engineer sees no reason why it would not work with a WDH, there has been some discussion about the air suspension models and a WDH confusing the self leveling of the vehicle.
If it would work with the LR hitch I don't see why it would not work with a this hitch.
Bear in mind it is engineer rated not LR approved so your insurance would be fine but LR could argue over warranty as it is a non approved like any other non LR accessory.
If someone has used the BRS hitch with a WDH they would tell you if it worked for them; this should give a good indication as they have similar geometry.
See if Aaron can get confirmation on use with WDH without load leveling bars as I am unsure of how these work. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Yes, you're correct. The HR bar is the low one. Here is their reply when I told them it was no good. :-
Quote:You are right this towbar does take away some ground clearance for off road use. It has primarily been designed for those wanting to use the Discovery as a touring vehicle to tow a caravan.
We have no plans for a off road version (more clearance) because of the work involved we don't believe we would get a return on the development costs.
I would like to put my name down for a Mitchell bros one. But I can't until I purchase my D3.
