"Sucking" sound from engine on de-celleration

Hi All.

I have a sucking sound coming from the engine, usually on decelleration, but i have noticed it at constant revs on motorways as well.

Anyone any ideas? Everything seems ok, fuel useage normal, power normal etc.

got to be a hose of some sort, perhaps turbo hose so get down and dirty, take off the underside engine protector and have a careful look from underneath (putting it in off road height BUT turning off and removing the ignition key, oh and put a couple of chocks under the front and rear wheel to be on the safe side).

next, get some small steps, take off the top engine cover (the shrowd around the oil filler) and have a carefull look at the hoses towards the rear, then do the same towards the front.

In effect yer checking ALL rubber hoses for cuts Thumbs Up

I have what I describe as a "hissing" sound when I come off the accelerator quickly after accelerating. my mechanic has not been able to find anything. The turbo hose has been changed recently.

Thanks for your comments everyone.

I suppose that it could be described as a hissing sound, has been doing it for a long time now (2 years?) and i hoped that there may be a simple resolution. Oh well, it looks like i'll have to live with it then.

Looking at the vehicles affected they are all auto's, could it be a vacuum pipe to the auto box that is split damaged etc ?

Just to add to it, i can not get the hissing sound when the car is stationary on the drive, the car has to be moving. Also, it does not seem to happen when the car is cold, i never notice it setting off for work in the morning, but after a few miles, it's there.

Drive's the wife up the wall, not so much me as i'm pretty much used to it now!

sounds just like my symptoms - only at low speed as well.

it sounds like a vacuum noise, but then it also sounds like two bits of metal or something rubbing together.

I initially thought it was from the auto box but then someone said It was the wastegate....

I also get this noise on overrun but I'm sure it wasn't there before - only really noticed it over the last year or so.

Dunc - there's no wastegate on the TDV6 turbo Whistle

just done a search on "wastegate" and there are lots of mentions

this one : http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic59133.h...Bwastegate

Quote:
It took me a while to get turbo off but it revealed a tiny crack in wastegate pivot which was enough to stop wastegate sealing off, consequently loosing boost until switched off and cooled down where the crack would close up.
