I'm pretty sure I have this too. Check my profile to find my video... ☺ I've not found the problem yet either. Seems to coincide with auto box getting up to temp and happens when revs drop after releasing the accelerator. My revs also dip and come back up again. Which worries me a bit. I suspect the torque converter although I don't have any judders. Flush and Dr tranny made no difference. Might try 2nd flush and new filter.

thanks for the info, I think
So was this noise a symptom of the issue that caused you to get the box replaced?
i.e. Did you find out what it was and is it going to cause my box to explode?
I'm off to Belgium in it in a couple of weeks...
Basically mine's been doing this for the year or so that I've owned it.
I don't _think_ its getting worse.
Although the car is pretty noisy under load these days.

I didn't take care of it yet. Hearing it most of the time however. Don't know what to do actually. Replacing gear seems too much. Looking for somebody to explain and tell if fixable without putting kidney or somthsouth for sale

Mine did it too before the rebuild - probably 12months or more - so 25-26K miles and at least 1 trip to the Pyrenees Mark.
2006, D3 SE Auto - gone but not forgotten.
2014 BMW 530d M Sport Tourer.

Hi !
I have exactly the same noise on my 07... I was thinking that it's maybe a gearbox noise, but after a partial and soon after a total gearbox flush, absolutly no change... Also, to me the noise seems to be related to an air sound, not a mechanical sound...
I've seen this video with the same noise (from here or another forum, don't remember...), seems to talk about the turbo actuator
I will follow this thread, I'm not so worried about this noise as my disco works perfectly.... for the moment

Don't think I'd be sticking my arms around a spinning wheel like that! There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

Hi, was anybody experiencing same noise able to solve it in any other way than changing TC?
Dr tranny is not the kind of solution I been looking for..

I have exactly the same noise...Its is very specific to throttle position, torque, boost etc. I get this screeching noise from about 1500rpm, but gets much louder on 2000rpm...by "playing" with the throttle, I have get this sound to start or stop. Another thing I have noticed is that on a very long steep uphill, this sound gets worse and no matter what the throttle position it screeches terribly.
From my limited knowledge I am convinced its Turbo related...also when on very low rpm 1200 - 1500 I can also get this noise to come and go depending on how is play with the throttle...
Even on coasting at about 110km/h on about 2000rpm that screeching noise appears and stays there, depending on throttle position
My money is on an actuator that is faulty...Seems like throttle position and actuator vs boost are not quite "talking" to each other. Logic tells me that when in boost and if one decelerates, the actuator does not move back fast enough to reduce boost or it may be that its over-boosting..IE when throttle is closed its still trying to boost...hope this explains my understanding of this. The noise on my car is loud and unacceptable, so I'd like to get this sorted out...anyone else with a better diagnoses.
PS. most likely not the TC, I just had the gearbox to ZF South Africa with a new flush and they have confirmed no issues with the TC.

Did anybody get to the bottom of this?
The vacuum / hissing / sucking sound that isn't there when cold, but appears once the engine is warm & is only heard on either deceleration or when holding a steady speed?
Overriding thoughts seemed to be its the autobox, but whats the fault?
I have this fault on mine, it's been there for a couple of years. The box has always been a bit clunky in changing, especially downshifting, but otherwise worked reasonably well.
Any updates welcome!
