Rain Sensor & Wiring

Hi

I've just bought a Rain Sensor and not exactly sure how to fit/wire it.

Anyone got any photos of the location and how it fits to the windscreen. Wiggs says there a connection and I'm assuming it's above he interior lights, do I just pull it through and stick the sensor to the windscreen.

Anyone done this mod and did you need to enable it??

Cheers Thumbs Up

Do you have the right windscreen with the rain sensor area on it?

I have got a bit behind the mirror which is sort of checkered. Is that what you have?

Does your wire come from behind the roof lining? Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Slimer's right - they don't.

You need the correct windscreen (usually "acquired" by getting the screen fitters to fit a new one if it's damaged by a "severe stone chip"), the sensor box and the cabling (usually fitted).

I have a feeling it may need enabling in the CCF but can't be 100% sure. Thumbs Up

EDIT: I think you'll also need the auto-dim mirror and surrounding trim (bloody expensive bits of plastic), but again, I'm not 100% sure.

I've just found an old thread on the spanish forum. Dakota (same user name on here) was looking into this and we found out quite a lot of info at the time (February 2010).

The screen has a larger black section with an opening for the light/rain sensor and it also has the front part of the sensor bonded to it.....so you need a new windscreen.

You also need the sensor (not too expensive) and to cover it you need the plastic trim. To make the trim fit properly, you also need the electrochromatic rear view mirror (the wiring for both items is already fitted).

All in all, it's quite expensive so I don't think Dakota actually got around to finishing it.

Have a look at this post http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic58523.html as I have done it in my MY05 disco. As the rain sensor contains the auto lights sensor as well you will need a new lights switch and definately you will have to activate the relevant CCF

Rennos

I have the new light switch and I have recently fitted zenons and had them activated.

So what your saying is that if I get the part from the German company I could possibly get auto lights & wipers as I don't have the proper windscreen???

Do you have any photos of yours , I've also tried the German link on the other thread and I don't think it's working. Thumbs Up

Hi, I suppose you do not have a heated windscreen (I do not). If you get the rainsensor CCF enabled then you will have auto lights (you will have to secure the sensor to the windscreen using narrow strips of double sided self adhesive tape - (they may be a bit more sensitive to the light which means they will come on earlier than expected.) If you can get the sensor base as I mentioned earlier you will also get auto wipers.

You are right, the german link seems to have changed (and is all in German now), but I believe you can try to contact them and see what happens.

As I have the standard rearview mirror, I positioned the sensor exactly below its fixing. I will try to post a photo as well.

Thanks Rennos,

You've been a great help.

Photo would be good. Do you have a part number or something I could email them with to get the correct part. Also, how does the base help the wipers work?

Cheers Thumbs Up

PS I don't have a heated windscreen!

I did a bit of searching, I think they still exist.

Have a look here http://www.autoglas-darmstadt.de/de/regensensoren.php

and here http://www.autoglas-darmstadt.de/files/950...enoren.pdf (go to page 13-14 for the sensor base & page 28 for the adhesive pad))
