Instrument Cluster is shot |
|
Hi,
Drove my D3 home tonight & all of a sudden the guages went awry & the text on the LCD screen is unreadable & back lighting is off.
I have checked all relevant fuses & checked for faults w/ my faultmate.......no faults w/ the cluster
Anyone else had this problem?
Can I buy a new cluster off ebay & install it, then clear faults & it will work ?
I hope someone can help me out !!!!
Thanks in advance

Hi T,
I have no idea what the fault may be. However, I doubt that fitting another instrument panel will work without enabling by dealer, or similar. (the odometer etc will need to be set to be in agreement with the ecu.
Best of Luck,

You can replace the cluster with another unit but you can not change the vin in all clusters, in my experience about 50% can be reprogrammed. You can change the vin and ccf data with the faultmate msv2, don't know which faultmate you have?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply........I have the Faultmate MSV2, can you please give more details about how I might get this to work. My current instrument cluster is pretty much useless, especially at night b/c the backlighting is gone. The only thing working is the Tachometer, judging speed by RPM's sux.
Thanks

Have you tried to reload a backup file from your ccf to see if that has gone corrupt...?.

If you get hold of a cluster just reload your original ccf file to the new cluster then see if the vin has changed? The mileage will be that of the new/shand cluster but this can be changed. As flack said you could try reloading your ccf file back to the ip, also you could reflash the ip with new software which I had done after I thought I had fried my ip and it fixed it.

Have you checked if it is a loose earth or connection? “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Just write your backup file to the ip and see where you go from there.
