If Water is leaking, then I can't think that it would take too long to show up in a test....

Did you have someone to fit this for you? It looks like the Kenlowe oil cooler the same as I fitted to my previous car as the ATF fluid was overheating when pulling a caravan up hills. Kenlowe were really good and the kit wasn't that expensive. Do you know how easy it was to plumb the hoses in to existing? I'd probably think of doing this again to the D3 if it saved the ATF from being contaminated with water.

What sort of mileage are we talking about that this usually occurs at?

Just been looking at the Kenlowe RX1572 oil cooler kit , seems a good price for what you get Thumbs Up

Think I might try this kit and then get the mega-flush done and see how long it lasts , as long as no more glycol goes back into the box then maybe , just maybe I may get away with it Shocked

Hi no as explained got severve juddering tried usual flush and mega flush with little success. Reverted to ZF specialist for new torque convertor, and transmission rebuild and they fitted the seperate atf cooler a it was water contamination from the original radiator that caused the damage in the first place.

Hi,

Just saw that you posted in another thread and it reminded me to come back here and ask how you've been getting on since the 'box rebuild and new oil cooler?

Is it still working perfectly? Are you now outside the length of time that it appeared fixed the last time you did the double/mega flush?

What I mean is, can you now 100% confirm that the problem has gone away and the only possible solution (in your case) was a gearbox rebuild caused by a faulty radiator?

HI Paul, thanks for your interest !

I am really pleased with the car the gearbox really is great now. It is better than I have know it in the past. To answer your questions,

The first time I had a double flush the car lost all the juddering symptoms for nearly a year. So no I am not outside the time that the original double flush sorted the problem. But I did have a second double flush with 4 tech and this did not last more than a week before the shuddering came back !

I do 100% believe that the water contamination from the radiator cause the damage to the transmission and hence the juddering. That is why now I have the separate atf cooler fitted so that this hopefully will not happen again.

I'm still suffering from torque convertor slip on my auto-box, however I don't have, or have ever had, any form of juddering.

On both occasions that I've had a double flush, it has temporarily fixed the problem for a few weeks before the slipping returned, so it's clear that something is contaminating the ATF within a short space of time.

The reason for bumping this thread is also because I have mine booked in to have a new radiator fitted next Tuesday and that will also be done with a coolant and ATF change......I'll run it for a week and then change the ATF a second time.

It's just far easier and 2 grand cheaper to try this method first before going to whole hog and getting the auto-box refurbished and the torque convertor replaced.

If it works, then I'll seriously consider getting an external ATF cooler put in over the next 12 months or so.....I just hope there hasn't been any lasting damage to the torque convertor Big Cry

It is quite cheap to have to ATF checked for glycol contamination. It may be an idea to do this before replacing the radiator. Idea

Hi all, Yes OAT (organic additive technology), (or Landrover antifreeze 8) ), is Glycol based & it does test positive to the test.
