I've done over 430 miles today and 1000's of miles since the transfer box was replaced. After reading the above posts, recon we need to check for water contamination. Big Cry

Anyone know who and where I can get it checked asap? Whistle

At work we use a couple of different places that test water quality, including glycol content - but I doubt they could test oil.

For an example, Severn Trent water - you could ring your local water supplier and find out.

Oh, but they ain't quick.

BTW 4-Tech does it by post.

Given that the linkage is only 4 weeks old is there a chance that it has slipped down the cable?

It may just need adjusting and tightening up again (yep, I had this).

Cooler for auto box oil :- Next phase started - I have ordered the 25 row cooler from Kenlowe. Pretty sure this will fit but may have to get special hose ends organised - will keep you all posted, with 'photos, when the kit arrives.

Did anyone used Lucas Stops slips oil in their autobox? Claims to repair slipping. Might be worth a try at 10 quid per bottle.

Well, the autobox is heavily conterminated with glycol. F Censored K!

Spoke to the revision guy and mentioned the cooler from Kenlowe. He mentioned 2 downsides of installing this cooler;
- the oil will take much longer to get to the right temperature.
- since its just air cooled the temperature will raise significant when driving in a traffic jam.

Correct?

Just saw Renton's latest post and thought I'd update on my situation.

Various ATF oil changes have been previously done (see earlier posts) - none of which have worked for more than 1-2 weeks before it started slipping again.

I had the radiator replaced and the ATF changed again and within 1 week it was slipping again.

I am now going to get the torque convertor replaced within the next few weeks, together with another new pan filter, some seals and new ATF... Big Cry

Renton - I guess you are also looking at fitting a new torque convertor? Question

I've had the separate cooler fitted since January.

Not sure about it taking that much longer too be honest - the box locks up pretty quickly even when it's been freezing, which is the only gauge I have to how hot the oil is.

Can't see why a traffic jam would make it better or worse - the fan will cut in if the engine as a whole gets warm - which is no different to how it worked before - except you had the heating effect of the radiator on part of the coil, so in theory the gearbox oil temperature would be more consistent as designed.
