Congrats from one of the fifteen-year-old D3 owners. Have had mine since it came off the JLR VIP fleet in 2008!
If I’ve remembered right, there might have been a firmware upgrade that enabled automatic parking brake release for manuals. There were changes to the dash display software that added the clock and things like that in the early days. Worth a search on here!

Welcome.
This is a great forum with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Oh, and a few "characters".
Your choice looks to be well made. As you say, less to go wrong but it seems to me that one that has been kept that long by one person is likely to have been well looked after anyway so reliability should be helped by that.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Well done on your purchase and welcome.
I have a 2008 hse and I love it. After 11 years in a D2, the D3 is luxurious and so lovely to drive.Cheers,

Re Lrstaylor’s post highlighted above.
Didn’t realise all are expected to post a comment every time a thread is viewed.
That is not how a forums work !
And absolute shame on this newbie for criticising all forum members for not doing so.
Oh and a big warm welcome to all new Discovery owners, most of us are very understanding and helpful to your needs…….even if we view without posting.
Enjoy ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Thanks guys,
I hope it doesnt spend too much time in the workshops either.
I was interested in the history of the car and it was a bit unusual.
It was purchased by a family in Guildford and lived its life there and and Gibralter of all places.
So it spent alot of time going along the motorway. Hence the condition. They kept it until the clutch failed in December 2022. That is a 16 year ownership.
I spoke to them when it arrived with me on the phone. It had not really given any problems during that time.
Since Pete did the mechanical work it has clocked up only 500 miles with me. It seems very good indeed apart from a couple of things which I need to get to the bottom of.
Driving along I get an HDC fault and the suspension lowers. Three orange lights appear on the dash. Turning the car off and on again resets it and it is ok for another 10 or 30 miles. It might be connected to the brake pedal. I get Pete to plug it in and see if anything is recorded. When it is parked it retains its height for days, so I do not think there are any leaks. If I can fix that I will be very happy as it can get a bit bumpy on the lowest setting.
Minor faults- When the lights are on, the dash led back-lights flicker on and off sometimes, that is a bit weird. The radio goes quite for a half second or so when that warms up, I get an occasional red blink from one of a pair of lights on the lower LHS of the dash like a distress beaker and the parking brake orange light comes on fleetingly when changing gear occasionally. These things may be connected. Pete can have a look.
I guess thats why Land Rover called it a Disco!
Certainly helps me maintain my interest in it! If Christian offers to fix it, I might even take him a crankshaft.

Hello everyone!
First of all, I would like to thank all the people who make this forum live.
I am French (please excuse my bad English).
I have a Discovery 3 (2004) for 8 years. I had some issues with it (since I got it) but in the end I really like it .
I have 4 children and we regularly go on vacation thanks to its 7 places and its ability to tow (my caravan weighs 1500kg).
I have an IIDTools (a magic diagnostic tool). It is essential to repair my Discovery.
Currently my Discovery has been out of order for 3 months and I cannot find the fault (I've already spent many time looking) .
I have never set foot in a dealership. I've heard too many worries about them and I don't have enough money to have my Discovery repaired by them.
I will explain my problem in the dedicated section of the forum.
Thanks for your help.

Morning everyone, I’m Tom, just bought a D4… if it’s anything like as broken as the D2s, L322s and my series I’ll be here a lot
He’s been named Dave, yes all Land Rovers must have a name! Few bits and bobs to do and sort but hopefully nothing too horrendous in the first 6 months… Based in Lincoln, always up for a coffee or spannering
