Well some 13 years after my last post ( though not my last time viewing the forum or its valuable information ) I've re-registered as I am unable to access the email address I originally registered on and whilst I could remember my user name, couldn't remember my password...its an age thing, that's my excuse
Been a lot going on in the intervening 13 years, getting made redundant, working for a Russian owned company ( weird experience ), going out on my own, hit my 50's , eldest son getting ALL for his 14th birthday, son in remission, sons now in college and Uni respectively and and learning to drive now we are past the lockdowns ( ssshhh don't jinx it ) and through it all, 267,000 miles, ready to celebrate its 18th Birthday in December my Disco3 TDV6 SE....now known as Wibby ( don't ask, the kids finally corrupted me/wore me down! )
Numerous air suspension repairs including 3 compressors, 1 torque converter ( 175,000 miles) , 1 turbo ( 257,000 miles ), 2 injectors ( 242,000 miles ) 1 complete set of wheels ( SE Alloys worn out on inner bead ( 245,000 miles )
Total servicing and repairs running at around £ 25,000 to date, however two big bills to come
EPB died a week ago ( think it may well be over the 50,000 cycles but as on the drive, Bodsy's brake bible came to the rescue again, enough to get it to the garage ) and the auto gearbox has an additional thump in 2nd? gear that doesn't go away completely even if you drive it like you stole it. BUT for all its numerous little faults and foibles, bongs, beeps and warning lights, has only actually failed twice ( the injectors and then the turbo ) and had to be recovered. STILL averages 27 mpg on my usage, unchanged in 16 years ownership.
Does 16 years ownership count as an objective long term test? yes its towed a nearly 2 tonne caravan, complete with 2 adults, 5 kids, roof box, surf boards, bikes etc..and served as a works transport with 500 kgms plus of wood/steel in the back at various times ( you can fit 3 metre lengths in a Disco...just), been across fields, regularly down unadopted farm tracks ( daily commute so that probably explains the air suspension )
So the plan is now to start a rolling restoration and tidy up the dings and wear of the previous years, could be entertaining, or at the very least involve skinned knuckles, swearing and copious cups of Tea oh and at least some assistance from sons rather than distraction ( well hopefully )
Hope all are well out there in the forum.

Thanks for adding me. I have a 2008 D3 TDV6 HSE and I'm going to be asking some daft questions!

Well I’ve finally bought a D3 commercial to replace my D2 which I’ve had for 10 years so it’s a real shed and a project I’m going to transform it into a personal camper for camping expedition. I’ve got a long journey to do the conversion and a lot of reading to do on here I will be shouting for help for the knowledgeable members of this forum.

Hi folks.
Don’t have a D3 or D4 yet, but look forward to the advice.
Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,
Since a couple of months owner of a disco 4 2010. 2.7 tdv6.
I am active member on the Land Rover forum in Holland. I did some repairs myself, like EPB was hardest so far.
But now I have difficulties with transmission oil leak and can not find the answer to my case. So on the Dutch forum they recommended your forum because here would be more information to find…
Greetings Erik

Hi everyone
I have just bought a 2016 Landmark and have had it a month now, still getting to understand all its functions and loving every minute of owning it. If you see me I will be the one with the biggest grin behind the wheel.

In these parts it’s called “the permagrin”
Glad you’ve got it, it is infectious.
Enjoy the D4.

Hello, I'm Ben.
I'm French and a true LR enthusiast, I've spent my childhood into defenders, I've recently fully rebuilt a D1 and because my wife's pregnant I've bought a D3 as a family vehicle and... Troubles began
I've also a few road and off-road bikes I've rebuilt and a few old Alfa Romeo.
