dual reverse camera install to nav screen
so I have almost finally completed installing a multi-camera system in the D3 comprising two reverse cameras, an internal sucker mounted boot cam that can be moved to the outside if required and a forward facing camera.
Using one of these GVIF boxes as the interface to the Nav screen:

two reverse cams on the rear tailgate handle to get over the issues around seeing close up and slightly further away:

boot/external bullet cam for the woofers etc:

forward facing bullet cam fixed to the rear view mirror: (flippin rain )

all fed via an Ebay special 4-way CCTV ( £34) video switch/processor that does split/individual/freeze etc.. in the upper glovebox

GVIF box has an sense wire for the reverse camera so automatically switches to it when reverse is engaged and the little red Maplin push toggle switch ( £1.65 ) behind the EPB switch...

switches between both cameras depending on whether close up....

...is required, using standard phono style 'Y' splitter cables on the reverse camera outputs means they can be fed both to the reverse camera input and the 4 way video box so feeds can be seen on the screen without having to stick the D3 in reverse.

I've also added a live/ignition/off feed to the cameras, video switch, TV tuner etc from the second YT battery so that it can all be on without the need for the ignition to be live:

The 4-way video switch is designed for CCTV so also has a Video recorder output/input that can be used to connect a portable DVR or similar, I've used an Emprex BP-101.
This might all look reasonabley complicated but all the bits are plug together and in real;ity the most tricky part is getting all the cables routed to their various points by removing and replacing trim parts without breaking too much
The reverse cameras although not up to D4 factory standard are well worth doing but if I were doing it again I would definitely spend the extra few quid on CCD based cameras rather than the two CMOS based versions I have as against the two bullet CCD cameras the picture is a bit poor really.
what next? and theeeeennn......???

Malc, great job there, those ccd cams are ace as you say. How is it all powered? And where is the rest of it, bottom glove box?Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
Anyone found a good wireless rear view camera for a tintent, the new one has no rear window.
I have seen a couple of wireless reversing cameras, ie Maplin, however I have heard reports the signal on the reversing cameras comes and goes.

thanks chaps
just in case anyone else is after bits to do something similar, here's a list of what and where from,
( I have no connection with any of these except from being a customer ) for reference:
Very neat job there, Malc. Hope you don't get tugged too often by plod concerned about your forward-facing cam; ISTR that Steve (SN) had an issue with such, but then he was driving through Westminster.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
