Got my screens yesterday. Plan to fit over weekend. Can someone clarify whether i have to modify the headrest to accept the handles, or do i saw off the bit of the handle that used to sit into the original headrest? 2007 MY Irish spec S+ TDV6

You can do either.
Some people seem to prefer cutting off the protruding bit of the handle. When I fitted mine, I decided instead to modify the headrest. It's easy to do so - first, fit the new headrest in place and then slide the handles into place. Where the upper part of the handle hits the headrest leather, make a small cross-shaped cut through the leather and foam internally and just push the handle all the way into place.
If you do it this way, you can always restore things back to original condition. I ultimately ended up taking the screens out of the Freelander headrests and retrofitted them into the original D3 headrests (as has been described elsewhere in this thread). Looks neater, as there is no mismatch in leather texture or colour (the FL2 "leather" is slightly smoother finish than the D3).

Installed my kit over the last few days (have 3 kids under 4, so getting even an hour to myself is difficult). I located the 2 black boxes in the frame surounding the radio - specifically on the left hand side. I will post a couple of photos when i get a chance. The A/V input unit is located in the lower glove box. This mens that the front seat passenger has contol of the DVD and can change it easily. It also means that the rear cup holder is still in place. THe screen cables are long enough to reach from the radio area.
I have also retrofittred the screens into the original headrests. Qiute straight forward. the hardest part is grinding the slot for the screen cable into the headrest frame.
Thanks to all who posted info. Really helpful

Thanks to Large and the rest of you on this thread. installation was tedious but overall, not to bad. The result speaks for itself. The screens look great (I tested them last night). Install came out very clean.

Hi Baldrick,
I have a third sets and they work fine. I only use one input media (so all my kids watch the same thing) but operating on 2 separate channels should be ok. The only thing that my son (who sits in the middle) has to do is lean slightly to either side sometimes to pick up the audio signal.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that. will buy an extra set.
I have just completed my third installation - i bought 4 sets in all from TLO - great bit of kit 8) . 3 gone into Disco's one will go into FL2. Have a dud cable on the latest installation. One of the red wires is not making connection in the connector plug. Stipped the headrest down and spent about an hour testing - even split the cable half way to see which end was dead, so i am 100% sure of the problem.
I'll contact TLO on monday, re swapping or buying a replacement, but in the mean time, does anyone know if the cables are available separately?
Now that i have asked the question, I've just realise it was pretty pointless as most rely on TLO for the answers to such questions....... but i dont have the patience to wait until monday to find out... 2007 MY Irish spec S+ TDV6

Screen not working
Hi. I fitted my headrests with screens last year - bought through this thread. Suddenly one of the screens is not working - screen not turning on and no output of video or sound- anyone else have this problem?
Or anyone have any thoughts on what the issue may be? I had them fitted for me by an audio company so I will take it back to be rewired but first I thought maybe there is a simple solution.

Check if the plug connection under the seat is connected properly. It may have become dislodged. If that doesn't work, take it back to people who installed it and they can swap parts from LH to RH and figure out what is not working.2007 MY Irish spec S+ TDV6

Hi:
Questions/ Advice on the installation.
I am looking to install these with a DVD player as the SWMBO wants it that way. The request is that these play through the the cars speakers. I have the AUX in jack on the back of the center console. Also the DVD player has an AUX in as well as USB.
I would like to be able to use either the headphones and the vehicles speakers (there is only so much Thomas I can take). Is this possible or is it one or the other?
I am planning on using the Rover's AUX input for the DVD and using the AUX input on the DVD player for SWMBO' ipod. Does this make sense or is there a better way to do this?
Also it seems to me that the RCA connections are all PreAmp yet the Aux connection is for an amplified source like a MP3 player, any issues with this or does one of those boxes amplify the signal?
Is there any other AUX inputs on the stereo? Mine apparently has Satellite radio which we won't use. Can that be used instead of interfering with the regular AUX in?
I have a Mazda for which I was able to purchase a circuit board that tricked the radio into thinking that a tape deck had been added for a second AUX circuit. Anything like that exist for the Rover?
Lots of questions but trying to get my head around this installation and keep SWMBO happy. I wanted to just use the ipod for the video source which would solve all the issues but that was shot down.
Thanks for your help
Julian

Hi Julian and welcome to the forum
I've been having similar thoughts for my installation, here's what I've concluded which might help:
From what I have seen in the installation instructions (haven't actually received the units yet), the screens have their own audio input which is then transmitted to the IR headphones. Depending on the number of RCA audio outputs your DVD has (I am assuming from your post there's only one), the simplest thing you could do is use a y-splitter to feed both the headrests and the car's auxiliary input. If you are not going to tap into the latter elsewhere and you use the existing input, you will need said splitter, two female-female RCA adaptors and an RCA-minijack cable. This way, the cabin can hear Thomas which is also transmitted to the headphones and when you say switch to radio in the cabin, the kids can put the headphones on.
This however will present a problem if you want to listen to iPod, as the sound for that will be fed through the DVD, which the kids are now watching. Which leaves you with an additional device to the above, being a Phono (RCA) switch (several available on eBay). This is a non-powered box with two or more red-white inputs and one output: you can plug the DVD audio from the splitter as above into one of the switch inputs, the iPod in another and then plug the output to the car's aux. That way, when you've had enough of whatever the DVD output is, you can either switch to iPod from that switch or back to radio/CD from the head unit.
The benefit IMHO is that it's all neatly tucked away as the switch is small and you don't have to tamper with the OEM loom.
I (will) have a slightly different setup to yours (including a GVIF) but am looking at a similar solution for the audio, given the car only has one auxiliary input
Just bumping this as i still have the last batch of screens i think i will be able to get

4 - Alpacca leather
