Very good question - I assumed IC as there is no where else it can go - but it was a mute point, because the engine gave up the ghost anyway as the thrust bearing failed.

I did get the IC changed as I didn't want my new engine eating any dust from the old turbo - I put in an Off road IC - Soooooooo much better Thumbs Up

I have heard horror stories of debris from turbo vanes wiping out engines.
Im tempted by an uprated intercooler too

Turbo replacement...

Hi all, I'm interested in the post above as our D3 went in for a service this week and we have been told we need a new Turbo because there is evidence of an oil leak (not big but not small) and that the body needs to come off for replacement.
Along with several bits of suspension and a steering rack that apparently needs replacing we are looking at a £5k bill for a car that is at best worth £12k but more likely £9k or £10k.
We trust the garage as we have used them before and they are recommended (not a great big dealer but a Landrover specialist) and have been offered £4.5k if we decide to leave the car there and walk away from it, but should we do it? I feel sick at the amount of money which we would have to borrow to pay for it but I also love the car!
Is it true that you need to replace the turbo if its leaking oil? And is it worth doing all this stuff? You guys seem to properly know what you're talking about so any advice would be appreciated.

Depends where the leak is but a leak from the case can require a new turbo.

I'm sure you can get a new turbo and steering rack for considerably less than you have been quoted.

Thank you for the welcome! I've been looking at the forum for a long time but only just brave enough to post!!
So do you think it's worth repairing but maybe sourcing the parts elsewhere? It needs various other suspension parts replacing too...oh, and we were meant to be driving it on holiday next week too Big Cry

My indy will fit a new turbo for around £1.3k. Most of that is the unit itself which is not far off £900 inc vat, plus around 6 hrs labour.

As you are down south I suggest contacting forum member geoff. as I am sure he could offer a good price.

Thumbs Up

Edit: See, Geoff has replied already!
