Turbo replacement core NEW

Hi all,

thinking of fitting a turbo replacement core unit, would you core mechs recommend this or not, as I am sure the rest of the turbo is probably fine.

a lot cheaper option than the whole cost of a new unit complete""

cheers

Yes I've changed one(CHRA), easy to do, not on a D3, best way to go in my opinion, this is all that has been done to service exchange units, they usually come with 12 months warranty.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Something to do with the Censored oil that's recommended as standard? Whistle

Also, I wonder how many are actually actuator problems Question

FWIW, I have never (yet) seen a TDV6 turbo actually fail. It has always been the electronic actuator, or the actuator linkage that has been the underlying issue Thumbs Up

Very interesting. Is it difficult to replace the actuator/linkage?

Shocked VERY difficult as you can barely see it BUT if you know how to (Disco_Mikey Bow down ) it can be done without body or turbo removal Confused

D4 is body off to replace either turbo.

The actuator can be done in place with lots of patience and small hands. Alternatively, soak in penetrative lubricant and work it manually to free off Thumbs Up

Retail price on a turbo is around £900, and book time to change it is 5.5 hrs, plus approx an hour for diagnosis and engine managment downloads. But, no doubt a dealer will charge more than the 6.5 hrs, as its pretty difficult to do it in that time...
I would suggest going in, dropping your trousers and bending over before you ask for a price... Big Cry

Mikey, Is the £900 for a brand new turbo or a refurbished one?

Thx,

Erwin

Think it was a new one. Advanced Factors list a brand new one for less than that though Thumbs Up

Define fail. Mine was still spinning as far as I know, but wasn't producing a lot of boost.
