Hi Pete

Interesting u mentioning about the torque converters as had a guy down the road a few years back had a terrible trouble trying to obtain one , think he said that some companies were selling them for around £1,000

At the end of the day think it was Bristol gearboxes that got him one , but makes a lot of sense now as didn’t realise there was such a shortage

Likewise in also preferring to drop the ATF oil then changing after 500 x miles or so

Talking of engine oil changes is it the consensus that it should be done every 5k or yearly which ever comes first plse

Many thks as always , Have a great Sunday mate

Thankyou both. Tyres are in a bad state but I’ll get round to them they pass mot but yes I’m not happy with them. If I can get a torque converter for around £400 I’d buy one tomorrow and fit it myself but yes if it helps I’ll try dr tranny just don’t want it damaging the box it seems like the hotter it gets the worse it gets I’ll get to the bottom of it all bit by bit interesting morning read Thankyou guys

Sorry I’m going to ask these a bit at a time because there is a lot of info from both and a lot to take in I’m using a phone so carnt read and reply at same time sorry
why run engine while taking top drain out
why cooler pipes to drain
why not drain sump start fill it with torque oil drain again (guy I watched started put in drive then reverse) I dint like the idea of the engine running with no oil in it so was just going to drop fill do 100miles drop fill. I know this only removes half the oil but I just don’t like the idea of emptying the torque converter when it’s got problems already and if I need to change it it will be done at some point anyway. im guessing you fill with oil till it comes out like with most gearbox’s without a fill level eye
Im going to look into additives properly but yes im warming to the idea because im betting the box isn’t a light lump and its prob a git to do too

I also read it’s pointless taking sump off and changing filter because it’s not a proper filter however if it has a plastic sump change for a metal because it’s a better up grade and if they leak it usually a plastic bit at the top that needs changing looked fiddly but not too hard

I’m going to I know it’s a waste of oil but I think it’s worth doing to check and see how much oil it’s had in it see if it will take any oil because if it take say 2ltrs I know it was low on oil and I’ll know if it’s still leaking and that that needs fixing if that plastic bit is the offending bit

Gary. I can’t really comment on engine oil intivals.

Draining the gearbox sump only gets 3.5 litres out. But if you prefer that way ….
Simply leaving them over night or over a week can be an easy way to get more out.
And disconnecting the cooler pipe at the front of the car helps that process.

That oil does not look suitable.
Look for zf6hp compatable oil.

Metal sump are fitted because you don’t have to mess with the engine mount.
Metal sump’s more prone to leaking though.

You may as well clean it up and see where it’s leaking now.
Check it had a drain plug.
Check it’s not leaking by wiring connector. Oil may have been changed.

I’ve seen where a guy made a device out of 2 containers think they were both 10ltrs put a hose to bottom of 1 gravity fed drivers side of oil cooler pipe then put passenger side oil cooler pipe into a catch bottle he filled the drivers side container with 8ltrs then turned the car off when it had drained reconnected everything then took top sump plug out and filled it to desired level it looked mad to me and a lot of messing about making pipes up and connectors etc

A lot of messing about with pipe connectors, but it changes all the oil.

But if you don't want to do that, and maybe yours has already been changed, just do some as an investigation and then add additive after test driving

7 litres

Any ideas where I can get these tbh I don’t like the sound of paying £6 delivery for an order of £10 that weighs nothing and is tiny

usually you just reuse the pipe clamps.

have a look at the site sponcor. Advanced factors. Probably expensive postage, but you could order other stuff.

I think there is a discount code somewhere

Tbh once I’d done it I realised that I dint really need to remove at all but I suppose it will help with cleaning I bent them trying to remove so I need to get new I also dropped 1 of the gaskets into the sump tray but tbh I’d rather have new regardless I found the gaskets on eBay but I think they were different looked bigger than the ones I needed I’ll have a look and find some I just was unsure if you could get them from euro or a car shop thanks as always for the input I’d order £50+ so delivery was free but I prefer getting things from somewhere I can take it back if it’s wrong Kent is a bit far for me 😂😂
