You could try an easy-out. I've also got rounded torx bolts out by hammering in an old Allen bit.

drill the head off.then remove disc.chance is the taper is holding it tight.thread will probably come out once disc is removed and if not can weld a nut to the protruding thread or drill out or even drill and tap a thread at the next pitch.

Hit it square on with a flat ended punch or socket extension bar, this will shock the threads a little. Then get a small point punch or the edge or a small sharp chisel and put it at 9oclock on the left side of the head and hit it downwards. It should free off and come out.

Pete.

It's not the end of the world. The wheel will hold the disc on Smile

drill the head off. Chances are it will not move. Drill out the core for a 10mm x 1.5 mm thread. You will get the core size from an google search. Then re tap hole, use a 10mm x 1.5 pitch tap too clear out the remains of the screw thread

New c'sk screw from any L R dealer about £ 1.20 last time I did it (last year) or from the internet but postage probably more than the cost of the screw!!!!

drill through the countersunk screw using a 4mm drill, then open out with a 8.5 mm drill. This should take out most of the thread that's left in the hole. Use a 10mm x 1.5 pitch taper tap to clean the hole out. The screw does not really do anything other than hold the disc in position so is not load bearing.

Try to keep the drill as square to the screw as you can -you do not want to end up with thread on one side and none on the other.

Use decent quality drills although the screw seems to be maqde of some sort of poor quality steel- typical of L R

As I wrote go to your local Land Rover Dealer - you will mget one there or try A BMW /Mini dealer. You are looking for torx T50 Countersunk Screw. I see you have the part number.

8.4mm drill for M10x1.5.

Have also used a hammered allen socket with sucess.

or drill head then when disk is off wack it and use mole grips to remove remaining threaded part.

in future always wack em before unscrewing

In the past bought fromn B nQ had some slotted M10 countersunk that would work
It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Lots of methods out there and have had good success peening back the head with a hammer, which also shocks it; driving in socket torx or allen key; driving it around with a punch or drilling it out.

As I always have small cordless drill to hand I tend to drill out really difficult screws that are mounted on an open backed hub (ie not a blind hole). The head (and the rotor) comes off with a larger bit and I then drill through the remaining part with a much smaller RH bit. The smaller bit stays well clear of the threads but with the release of the head, the heat, the vibration and the removal of the screw core sees the screw pop out the other side.

Edit: As per this:

As with all such removals heat and vibration are your friends. I use a small cordless impact wrench these days and have never had a failure since. The effective torque is easily enough to remove the screw but without ever damaging it. Takes away all the stress!

Thumbs Up

I just snapped my torx bit trying to get this thing out. The bolt is still in good shape though. I think the shocking it trick is what I’m missing. The question is though what is the best tool for the Torx? Is it just torx bits for a ratchet or is a fixed piece L-shape tool the better bet? Is an impact bit worth using?
