Adding oil pressure and temp sensors
I have added an oil temp and an oil pressure gauge to my 2007 4.4 LR3. I used an oil filter sandwich to mount the sensors and quickly realized that is a mistake. (I am chalking that up to a learning experience and not to being an idiot that should have known better) I would like to T into one or both of the factory sensor ports (circled in the picture). Is there any reason I could not or should not do this? Alternatively, any reason that I couldn't drill and tap two new ports into the housing? I appreciate any help you can give. (I should have started here in the first place)
FYI- I have been told that the lower sensor is oil temp and the upper sensor is coolant temp but I would like to verify that.
I cant confirm whether it is or isn't a temp sensor but don't modify any oil temp sensor installation without considering the following:
It relies on the temp sensor element/probe being exactly where it is right now in the oil flow. If you install a tee piece you are pulling the probe back out of the oil flow and it will introduce an error, cooler than actual oil temp.
As for oil pressure it is different in that its a hydraulic process and in any one part of the process: between pressure increasing (pump) or pressure reducing/restricting devices (filter, cooler, check valves, pressure relief valves, bearings), all pressures should be the same.

Managed to find this info , not 100% sure but I think , the bottom sensor circled in your picture is the oil pressure sensor and the top one I think is ur oil temperature sensor ??????
Alas can’t help I’m afraid regarding the oil pressure gauge

You should watch this video from LR Time where they installed a pressure sensor on a TDV6. I would suggest adding the oil pressure sensor in the same manner for the 4.4L, that is to use a manifold (they link to a ready made option) to split the flow at the factory sensor.
Personally, I would not worry about adding an oil temp sensor, but that is me. The really critical thing is coolant temp and oil pressure. I definitely would NOT tap a new hole into the housing, it will be too thin to thread a fitting and you will compromise the integrity of the housing and could create a failure. If you must add an oil temp sensor, you probably ought to make your own manifold with ports for the new pressure sensor and temp sensor.
Gary’s photos and manual sections should be pretty helpful. I’ve thought about adding one to my 4.4L and all that’s all the same info I have to go off of. Seeing the sensor is logically next to the oil filter, I decided I would revisit the project in the spring or summer at the next oil change. No sense in lying on my back in the driveway during winter. Don’t forget you’ll need to drain your oil since the 4.4L sensor is below the engine.

@yankee_rover I think I may order the R-Spec adapter that LR Time shows in the video. That would be a nice clean way to install.

Ur so welcome and pleased it was useful to u ,always a team effort , enclosed some pics of the setup I put together , alas though I’ll more than likely find a better place to mount the oil pressure display , plus need to finish extending the wiring loom

@gstuart @yankee_rover Just wanted to share a quick update with both of you. I pulled the factory oil sensor and tee'd it off with some pipe fittings. Added the oil pressure and oil temp sensors. Everything is working correctly. I am running the oil temp sensor because I spend a lot of time in the southwest desert areas and driving mountain passes so I am curious what temperature my oil gets up to. If it shows that it creeps higher than I would like I will add an oil cooler and fan. I don't think that will be the case, but it is good to know for sure.

Minor correction to this would be that is the Oil temperature sensor, not the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor. Per your references above, the ECT is located below the throttle body. Very helpful documents, the info is all there.
Eric, do you have parts numbers or links for the sensors and gauges you used? I’d be interested to reference them for this future project. Show us some photos of where you have mounted the gauges, too.2008 LR3 HSE, 4.4L V8

Well, I’ll be. JLR gives us 4 unique ride height sensors but we get a temp sensor that can do double-duty! 2008 LR3 HSE, 4.4L V8
