My 2005 D3 just died on the highway - no warning signs, nothing. Just died. Temps normal, no odd noises, electrical power all normal - just no power and then the vehicle would just turn on trying to start, but not fire up. Display initially indicated 'Transmission Fault', then after trying to start indicated 'Engine Fault' Other that than no other warnings. No idea what the issue might be, had to leave the vehicle down south and it's getting shipped back to my local Indy in a week or so. The vehicle has been solid for 4 years with not an ounce of trouble or hint that there was any issue. Gutted.

Hi,
hopefully when the garage gets it back they will find a straight forward fault like a fuel pump or something and you will be re-united soon, at least its turning over
and
think you have just made me get off the fence
AA letter this weekend for £10 upgrade to national recovery rather than "take to nearest garage" still 6 months cover so might give them a call on Monday to take it.

If anyone has had a D3 crank go while driving, is it a silent loss of power or is there an audible noise of something packing up? Also, does the vehicle still turn on trying to start or would it be seized? I'm trying to understand whatvthe possible issues might be before it gets looked at near the end of the week.

Fingers crossed for u it isn’t something serious
Hope u don’t mind me asking but do u know when the fuel pump belt / timing belt / oil pump was last changed please as maybe the fuel pump belt is as fault ?
Sorry I can’t help with regards to the crank issue , the more knowledgeable members will be able to assist with that’s

Wouldn’t crank if it was the earth strap, we all know what it might be but it could be the timing chain? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Surely there would have been an audible noise if the timing belt went?

Now don't think in any way this is the same as your issue but some years back I had similar happen to me.
On M6 cruising along when engine basically coughed and lost all power - 3/4 full tank, electrics OK etc.
Could crank engine OK.
RAC guy diagnosed low (ie zilch) full pressure. Turned out to be LPFP which had gone - exacerbated by me dinging the fuel cradle off reading. I'd shook the bejasus out of the poor thing.
Changed pump (and cradle...) - started fine.
If not done yet get the codes read. I see no ships........

Thank you. I will advise once the vehicle has been looked at by the LR garage. Appreciate the input.

Looks like the cambelt on the drivers side has, just popped off and we're not sure what the internal damage is. Considering selling it as a non runner. Would there be any interest in a very clean 05 HSE - I'd be open to offers, or advise on what companies would look at this. Thanks.
