Hi I have a bit of excess backlash in my rear diff (05 tdv6 auto) none locking ,
my question is does anybody know where I can get the necessary shims for the crown wheel and pinion and new seals of course , there is no noise from the diff whatsoever no whining or rumble ,
just a noticeable clunk ,thump when the backlash is taken up .
I don't know how much excessive backlash is until I get under the truck this weekend with the dial gauge to know what thickness the required shims will be .
Many thanks Phil

Check the diff preload - prop off, drive shafts out. Measure torque to turn diff. It will be too slack as the bearings will be worn. Fit new bearings and it will be ‘ok’ Series one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)
LR 90 - In bits
Disco 3 - currently in bits

Thank you Breg90 ,that's an enormous help much appreciated , Do you happen to have the bearing numbers for front and rear diff's be nice to have them in hand when old ones removed ,may as well do both of the diffs at the same time ,got a slight hum of the front diff ,
Many thanks Phil
