Cheers,
That brings up another question I was was looking for an answer to.
I've not had to remove the oil pump on this, or mess with the bottom end, but obviously a lot of the oil is going to have come out while I've been spinning it around on the engine stand (sump off). So I don't think I need to prime the pump, but I guess there must be a good strategic way of putting the oil in before first start (yes through the filler cap...), but maybe in the oil filter hole etc..? At the moment I think I'm going to fill the oil up, and turn it over by hand quite a few times before going for it.
I am possibly over thinking that part.
I'm also pretty paranoid about the timing belt change I've done, the torque settings for the 6 pulley bolts seem pretty low (23nm?) but it's all turning fine and seems solid enough, and coming back in line for the pins after a few turns around (which is more than the old engine did! - which I'm now convinced is why it spun a bearing in the first place).
Also - the gearbox oil, I've no idea how much of that I've lost, but I've got a 1ltr top up bottle ready (granted - I may need more) but looks like I need the car to warm up before checking the level of that? Also looks like it's quite easy to do (top up) that from the radiator end.
I think once the engine is in and running another priority may be to change the gearbox oil and filter, and maybe get BODSY to do a full flush or something (think he's fairly local to me)
Basically - I think I'm just scared to start her up incase i've completely it up! 2008 Disco 3 HSE TDV6 - Gone

Are you saying you didn't change the oil pump? If so, you really should have done as early pumps are prone to failure too! I would go as far as to say do it now before you go any further.
Fill the engine with about 4.5 litres of engine oil holding back the last litre or so. Then when everything is done and you're ready to turn the key. Pour in the remainder through the centre of oil filter (slowly) and don't let it fill too much the inside of the filter, or it will flow through it and over spill into the Vee! Pop on the cover and tighten, then turn the key immediately before it has a chance to drain back into the sump.
The gearbox can be topped up once the transmission is up to temperature and is not difficult. There is always a certain anxiety when starting a rebuilt engine for the first time. If you've covered everything and done it right all will be fine.
Now go and get that oil pump out. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

That's alright, it's easy to forget where posts are on here. Just so long as you haven't done the same with the parts in your engine. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

does not need to take that long this was my first attempt:
regarding your "new" oilpump.. although it was changed allready... i think the "common" outcome here is, that also new pumps wear... as they do deliver rather low pressure a iddle as standard, and wear only drops that further, they always bennifit from a new pump.. since 100K miles on them can be a potential danger zone.. regarding pressure..
so it would be nice to know for you, how old that pump is..Best regards
Harold

Ohh nice - we'll have to see how long mine takes! (if it starts! )
It's only done 12k miles on this new pump, in 2 years. I can live with that. May check the pressures when it's all up and running for some peace of mind!2008 Disco 3 HSE TDV6 - Gone

It doesn't always take that long Harold but it often does take an unusually long period of cranking to get these fired up. The point is that sometimes people question why it's not starting after relatively short cranking periods. This thinking can lead them down the path of unnecessary investigations.

It will be fine, you didn't rip the entire engine apart so don't worry about it.
By the way, if there is no photographic/video evidence it didn't happen! yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

She lives!
My first start video didn't go as planned however as she didnt start! Then the bluetooth kicked in on the car and stopped the video!!! So left it over night to have a think and realised I forgot to bleed the low pressure fuel lines!
Bleed the lines first thing this morning and up she fired!
Second start video on the way.
Now I've got a day of finding out where all these left over screws and bolts should go. and putting car back together of course!
Also got the inner CV boot to do, so may as well get that out the way today if I can.
Will update later
To say I'm pleased, and relieved is an understatement.
