New member lots of questions

Hi guys
after running a D2 for a few years Ive decided to move up to a D3
I bought a D3 at auction and had to buy it blind because of the covid .
well it was an impulse buy but looked ok on the photos and i knew the air bags had been deployed and it had had what looked like a minor bump on the front passenger corner.
so it gets dropped off and it a bit worse than i thought the steering rack is shot and smashed the air bags are gone in the dash and the steering wheel .
so ive tried to raise the suspension and nothing but a single beep and a HDC special programs are off error and as i expected loads of warning lights
so is the suspension issue connected to the air bags been deployed etc or do i need to be looking elsewhere .
Also the crash sensors on the front will probably need replacing will they need to be programmed into the system .
Its a world away from the D2 and ive a hell of a lot to learn in paticular about the electrics system so any help advise or guidence would be great guys as at this moment I think i may have bitten off more than i can chew.
Also again I should have done some research but ive ordered a carsoft fault code reader for the lr/jag are the any good and what will i not be able to do with it
Regards Baz

How big was the bump? there is an air valve for the suspension behind the front bumper but it is on the drivers side, could still be damaged though. You really need to get the codes read to understand what going on.

it was not a massive bump only damaged the steering rack and front passenger corner bumper
no damage to drivers side

Hope you did not pay to much for it that sounds like there could be quite a bit to spend on it and you do need to get the codes read first so we can help Thumbs Up

Just saw the picture not quite as bad you still need the codes as that could be the steering angle sensor are there any other lights staying on the dash Thumbs Up

Ok no problem .
ive stripped off the bumper and the top side of the dash. the steering rack is off and ive removed the crash sensors on the front ,
I should be able to get some of the parts by tuesday to start rebuilding it and the Icarsoft reader should be here by wed /thursday so I may be able to get some more info to play with .
My guess is it will still show errors untill everything is replaced

Yes as you say, it won't be happy until all repaired. Air bags, crash sensors, steering angle sensor and potentially an iffy battery if it's been standing awhile will have the potential to cause lots of cascade faults.

Laughing Laughing All of them ....
Yeah there are lots but there will be untill the air bags and pretensioners are replaced I would have thought ,
Talking about the streering angle sensor how does that work .
also when i removed the rack the bottom uj on the rack came out with a fair long triangle shaped shaft that slides into the top part of the steering top link ,is this normal or is there something else I need to buy

It may just pop together, I don't know weather it's meant to pull apart. If it's original then I would replace it anyway, the UJ's get notchy, also the slider wears and can knock.

Hi

Welcome to the asylum Laughing

Don’t know how much help it is but I also bought a project D3 some 4 x years back where the airbag system had fired after a slight knock on the drivers door

so more than happy to help where I can as went through the same thing of replacing sensors , curtain airbags ( they had been cut out ) pre tensioners

Steering wheel angle sensor is basically telling the system what angle the wheels are at in relation to ur steering wheel , diagnostics reset it to zero with the steering whee/ wheels l dead straight

U can’t test the cash sensors and are different colours

Plus u will need a decent code reader, ( I have the gap iid ) to reset the crash data in the srs module

Also with the gap iid u can test the entire srs system, alas they are £500 but pay for themselves very quickly and will do everything u need and more

Link to my thread when I done my airbags

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/curtain-air...t=Air+bags

Also read out from the iid or airbag status

Plse feel free to give me a shout if I can help ken any way , along with many here if u get stuck

Hope that helps

So, if I may also add, plse ensure the battery is disconnected , allow 30 x minutes before touching any part of the airbag system

Where abouts is LANs plse
