Disco with 2.7d V6 diesel >> Buy or not??

Dear all,

I could buy a Disco 3 with a 2.7d V6 engine from 2005 with 180.000 km.
The engine doesn't run and the dealer who sells it doesn't know the history.
He got it as it is. Some airparts in front of the engine have been taken of.

If I would mount all the parts, would it be possible to connect to a computer and read out the problem?
Tipps from your side, any advise what I could do or better leave it where it is?

Thanks in advance!

In principle, yes. Preferably then the reading with a reader that understands Discovery 3 like IIDtool (example) rather than a generic reader.

Assuming it isn’t the only D3 for sale in Switzerland I’d just leave it unless you’re feeling like you want a potential Landy from hell.

That is to say less than scrap value.

Personally I wouldn't take it if it was free.

Wot? Don't tell me she's doing road trips without me!! Shocked Shocked

Re the D3 the OP's asking about, just do the maths. I'd bet you cost to buy plus cost to fix (engine plus everything else needing doing) will be waaaaaaaaaaay more than it will be worth. It prob only worth scrap value only. Thumbs Up

+1 if I was after a car that would eventually work. I'd only take it to strip it. Thumbs Up

Massive money pit, I would avoid unless it was free, pull the heads, laugh and then break it.

If there was nothing wrong with it the dealer would fix it and sell it
I learnt one thing in life and that’s a dealer wants to make every penny he can so if it was a cheap fix he would fix it
Instead they find someone like
You and say I don’t know what’s wrong with it prob nothin major and say oh by the way sold as seen

Please take everyone’s advice steer clear this is a discovery not running not a vauxhall corsa
