My dealer has informed that the very audible happy clicking/ computery noises my car makes which I had assumed to be all part of its character is in fact a very noisy DVD player............and having checked under the seat I can verify it is really noisy when operating
What is that all about? end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

I have the same in my 05MY SE. I assume the DVD is constantly spinning up in the reader possibly because it doesn't cache any data or maybe it's to prevent pauses due to spin up delay when accessing map data in 'real time'. I think quite a few DVD players do this - especially portable / game players.
At least you know there's power going to it I guess - whether that's a bonus who knows?
I'm sure someone more technical can explain why. I see no ships........
