In France caravanning, need to add Dr Tranny
Hi - just arrived at a fantastic campsite in Brittany (from recommendation on here!). Great journey down but with caravan and totally loaded d3 and I started noticing some slight judders.
Won’t be doing much driving (and none with the van until the return trip).
I have a couple of tubes of Dr Tranny I bought ages ago for exactly this sceranrio. I have some basic tools with me... but is it the sort of thing that can be added without a load of tools. I’ve read some posts that suggest the car needs putting on axle stands.
Basically I just need to be able to cover 600 mikes back home where I guess I need to get a new torque converter!2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

The slow, but simple method is to undo the oil cooler pipe and slowly put the Dr Tranny in the pipe. Takes forever, but it a simple way to do it.Bodsys Brake Bible

I drove almost 900 miles with my TC juddering whilst towing 3.5t and a further 700 miles not towing. I am not saying it was ideal but you should be alright to get back home.

Thanks very much everyone. I am in Brittany (Beuzec-Cap-Sizun).
Am I right in thinking if I go for the pipe I just need a screw driver and if I go for the gearbox I just need an Allen key?
Will see what it’s like today pootling around without the trailer.

You will need a pair of pliers(to remove the pipe clip), a screwdriver, a small jubilee type clip and a short length of pipe the same diameter as the hose you need to take off (10 or 12mm can't remember which),
Take the cooler pipe off(the top one on the right off side of the cooler) push the short length of tube onto the cooler and empty the sachets of DrT into the pipe fitted to the cooler.
Refit the pipe with the jubilee clip.
Doing it this way the DrT will run into the cooler free and easy, 5 minute job without getting underneath It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I have a lot more patience than skill so it sounds like this will be the route! Also I don’t think I have the right size Allen key for the filler plug sadly.
Is the pipe quite stiff - is there likelihood that when I undo it it will disappear into the engine?
Thinking of getting a funnel and pouring into the pipe as I don’t have any spare pipe I can connect to the cooler.
But I’m trying to work out why it takes ages - am I missing something? Is the diameter of the bike in the pipe really tiny?

No need for a pipe or funnel ,If you cut the Dr tranny right you can squirt it down the pipe. I syphoned out a the equivalent of oil that the Tranny replaces. Takes minutes

I am amazed people are still suggesting trying to put Dr Tranny into a pipe thats designed for fluid to travel in the opposite direction.
As stated by me and others in previous threads just pour it into the oil cooler with a section of hosepipe which is exact right diameter. This takes about three minutes from starting to finishing.

The direction of flow is into the cooler not out, the pipe will not disappear into the engine bay but you may lose a small amount of oil if you let it drop, very easy to keep it in position, tie it up with string if it bothers you.
As Gazellio says use a piece of hosepipe you only need a few inches and a Jubilee clip if it does not already have one.It can when others can't,

+1 Don't put it in the pipe, put it in the cooler, very easy, very quick, no mess.

This is all incredibly helpful - thank you so much! Getting occasional judders going up steep hills without the van. So hopefully Dr T will sort us travelling around in France.
Need to think about return trip. Not sure 900Km back to Rotterdam is smart - we were planning visiting other places on route but no big deal. Looking at getting a ferry from St Malo which means we get a couple more days on this fantastic site so would work well (but shame we’d lose our ferry crossing). Would rather it fail completely in England if it does. Other options are leaving the van - fixing D3 in the UK and coming back for a long weekend to get the van. Or sorting in France... but my French isn’t that great and difficult to come back if there are problems.
Very keen that I don’t get severe judders that start to damage the engine or cause more gearbox issues.
Am pretty relaxed - All part of D3 ownership/adventure ! Looking at the family having a great time on hols I feel like the luckiest guy alive so the judders aren’t affecting me that much!

Put the Dr Tranny in the cooler first then take it for a drive without the VAn and see how it feels. It may do the trick and then your back on schedule. I would not make plans until you put the Dr Tranny in (Via Cooler as above) it really only takes a few minutes.
