Could I please confirm that it's wise to replace the back plates whilst the rear bearings are being changed as mine are also shot?
And: Anybody know the book time for rear bearing replacement?Mods:

Thought I'd better update this thread.
The D3 passed it's MOT with the hole in the rear brake backing plate.
In discussion with the MOT tester he said that as the hole was in the centre of the panel, and didn't leave a sharp ragged edge around the outside, it is not dangerous. Also the handbrake cable mounting is not effected, partly because it is on the opposite side, but mainly because it is mounted to the thicker centre part which is not effected by the rust.
He confirmed that if the hole was on the edge of the panel and I'd cut it back to the thicker centre bit to get rid of the ragged edge he'd then pass it.
The plan now is to pick up a set of new back plates, plus a used set of rear uprights, and refurbish them with new bearings etc at my leisure so I can do the swap over a weekend and won't need access to a press.

Having a problem getting the parking brake cable out of the backing plate. I've managed to unscrew the large plastic nut, and removed the long spring that goes over the cable on the inside. Is there anything else holding the cable to the backing plate? Well besides rust.
Don't want to screw it up...
Thanks
Greg.
I need to find and remove SPV500030. I'm guessing that this clip is on the inside of the backing plate where the cable passes through... back outside.2006 SE 4.0 V6 with rear locker

Nothing else holding it. I had to grind off both the backplates, carefully to not harm the cables.
I couldn't find anything that looked like SPV500030, so no clip.
Does anybody have a picture of what the cable end looks like removed from the backing plate? I've started to grind where the threads are (where the large plastic nut goes) but don't want to go too deep and damage the cable. I haven't got my new backing plates yet so I'm kind of working blind.

The clip is on the thread side. What stops the cables from going in.
The cable "sleeve" is white plastic. You will see it very well. Just have the price off new cables in mind when you do it
